LGBTQI+ people come to the UK fleeing persecution. But instead of finding safety here, some are locked up in detention centres where they face LGBTQI-phobic bullying, harassment and abuse. They are held indefinitely in prison-like conditions that isolate and traumatise them. Deprived of their freedo...

Last nights live broadcast on Come Fly With Us

I'm getting very comfortable with the broadcasts now and try to keep them light and entertaining.

After a light moan about TFL - it took me over 5 hours to do a 2 and a half hour trip - I started in on my new charity. Safe Haven Alliance.

The aim of this charity is to help those LGBTQ+ people around the world who live in peril of death for being who they are. I want to do what is necessary for them. If that means relocation to a safe country so be it. If it means just moving to another city that's what I will do.

I have acquired a 2nd trustee and need a third so I can apply to the Charities Commission to officially set up the Charity. If any of you are so inclined to join what will be a very rewarding task please contact me.

Last week it was disability and this week I'm going to talk about a new gay charity.

When I had Krystals, my gay cabaret bar in Stoke Newington, we supported and did events for The Food Chain. And that was the first time I had ever actually raised money for charity.

When I returned from Thailand last summer and started upon my new 'old' life in London I started meeting gay men from all around the world. A lot of Asian men who had had a lot of problems due to being gay.

I met a young gay couple who cannot return to their home country because both their families have threatened to kill them.
Then recently whilst collecting new members for this group I came across a couple of gay refugees in Africa. I have since got in touch with the gay supervisor who looks after the 70 lgbtq+ community in an 80,000 person refugee camp in Northern Kenya. He says that their group are the lowest priority for absolutely everything including food, medication and housing (such as it is). He's been there 2 years.

This has prompted me to look into the situation globally and I have to say it's not good. We Western gay's have it bloody easy and I'm going to try my best to help these people.

I'm setting up a charity called Safe Haven Alliance and anyone who wants to help can give me a DM or email for now. Here is the mission statement:-

β€œTo relieve the suffering and advance the human rights of LGBTQ+ refugees, asylum seekers and migrants, particularly those facing persecution due to their sexual orientation or gender identity, by providing support, advocacy, access to essential services, and programmes which promote wellbeing, safety and inclusion in the UK and Internationally.”

The charity pictured was taken 2 days ago. It's based in Canada.
