The first major season of progress for the Arsenal under Mikel Arteta, as the club finished 2nd in the Premier League after pushing Man City close for most of the season. After finishing 5th the season before, Arteta boosted his squad by signing Gabriel Jesus from City, immediately handing him the number 9 shirt. The Brazilian went on to score 11 goals in 33 games in his debut season for the Gunners, with a further 8 assists.

Hard to believe now, but Blackburn Rovers were once a staple of the Premier League, even winning it in 94/95. One of the main reasons for that was players like Tugay, who wore the blue and white shirt between 2001 and 2009. Rated by Georghe Hagi as one of the finest ball players in Europe, he was a touch of class in an otherwise dogged Blackburn midfield. An ultimate Barclaysman, the Turkish midfielder played 294 times for Rovers, scoring 12 times.

It’s easy to forget the impact Dimitri Payet had on the Premier League and West Ham during his brief spell, but for 18 months he was magnificent. His debut season coincided with West Ham’s last at the Boleyn, and he provided fans with many memorable moments including THAT free kick against Bournemouth. Ultimately he shined brightly but burnt out quickly- forcing a move back to Marseille the following January- but he helped West Ham to their highest Prem finish at the time and was shortlisted for the PFA Player of the Year.

After the Tony Pulis and Rory Delap long throw-in years, Stoke City surprised everyone and started to go a bit cultured during the mid-teens. Eyebrows were raised as the club bought the likes of Bojan and Marko Arnautovic, but the biggest surprise of all was the signing of Swiss star Xherdan Shaqiri from Inter Milan. This away shirt was worn during his debut season at the club, including a game at Everton as the Potters won a thrilling game 4-3, with Shaqiri scoring a brilliant half volley.
