Bogdan Ra kicked off his new label Love Affair with some banging house cuts that threw it back to early Chicago styles. This third outing flips the script and shows his range with four disco sounds that take their cues from the late 70s and 80s: all the hallmarks are there, from the classic synths and vocoders to dusty drum machines. 'Complimento' is a smooth title track, while 'Shout' is a French-tinged funk workout., 'Paramour' glides through cosmic disco textures, while 'Fire in Cairo' brings an unexpected vocal twist and acrobatic bassline full of movement. Charming stuff.

John Acquaviva's re-invigorated Definitive Recordings imprint has decided to breathe new life into one of Kevin Saunderson's biggest Inner City dancefloor hits, piano-powered, life-affirming 1992 smash 'Pennies From Heaven'. The man behind the revision is long-serving German artist Roland Leesker, a producer and music industry veteran best-known for his long association with Get Physical Music. Leesker has wisely leaned into what made Saunderson's original so special, wrapping the Detroit don's bouncy piano stabs, synth-strings and Ann Saunderson's rush-inducing lead vocals around a chunky, thickset, locked-in house groove. It's a tasteful and peak-time-ready revision all told, with a handy acapella DJ tool completing a strong package.

Ten years on, one of the most treasured entries in Uyama Hiroto's catalogue finally returns to print. Long prized by collectors after missing out on a proper domestic vinyl release, Freeform Jazz captured the producer at his most adventurous and stepping beyond the realms of his earlier work and into more exploratory worlds. Its title is an apt one: melodies ebb and flow, rhythms bend and stretch and real beauty emerges from passages of masterful tension. Warm bass, glistening keys, loose-limbed drums and expressive saxophone combine throughout to make for one of those classic listening albums that is a continuously unfolding story.

For serious house heads, seeing the words Blaze will get their hearts aflutter. The New Jersey duo of Josh Milan and Kevin Hedge wrote, produced and remixed a faultless run of records from the mid-nineties onwards and still get referenced today by many new school house artists. This first new EP in a minute carries on where they left off - with deep grooves infused with a rare musicality that borrows from jazz and soul. 'Sapporo' has dancing keys over a shuffling rhythm, 'Celestine Prophesy' centres subtle US garage drums a little more and 'Microboards' pulls back and lazes in swirling melodies. The cosmic energy and tippy-tippy rhythm of 'Astrology' is the highlight for us, though.

Marlon George is a British DJ and producer based in London renowned for his "slightly spacey, casually jazzy, and fully groovy house music," with support from names as illustrious as Kyle Hall and Jimpster. But really, if he's getting signed by the legendary Trelik, then that's all you need to know about his skills. He lays them bare across three tasteful cuts here, starting with the liquid dub of 'My Secrets Are Safe With Me' with its wispy shards of light piercing the water's surface and glistening against the dusty hi-hats. 'Najagen' has more drive but no less depth and warmth to it and 'Do The Rha!' is another smoky, minimal, heady dub house roller that sneaks right under your skin.

The indefatigable Mr. K returns with another expertly curated double-header that shines a deserving light on two dancefloor staples from different corners of disco history. On the A-side, Shades Of Love's 'Body To Body' gets the treatment it deserves by extending the seductive groove that made it a Paradise Garage favourite and a standout of the early-80s boogie era. Now the OG pleasures burn even longer. Flip it over and Crown Heights Affair's 'Dreaming a Dream' is allowed to fully bloom with its euphoric keys, soaring brass and relentless rhythm given room to breathe and really make their mark. These aren't radical reinventions, but thoughtful touch-ups from a master of the form.

Since making his debut alongside Hardwell 20 years ago, Franky Rizardo has taken his ear-catching, frequently melody-rich big room house sound to such sizeable imprints as Defected, Simma Black, 8 Bit Records and, most recently, his own LTF Records regular. Here the Dutch DJ/producer adds another notable stable to his CV, long-running Dutch dance outlet High Fashion Music. A-side 'Shinijuku' is in many ways typical of his trademark style, with melodic trance style lead lines and elastic electronic motifs rising above a deep, rumbling bassline and propulsive, sweat-soaked deep house beats. B-side 'Baile De Fantome' offers an even deeper and more percussive vibe, with a big bold bassline, suspenseful melodic motifs and layered, tribal house style drums.
