The Left Book Club was the Victor Gollancz imprint that from 1936 to 1948 published the leading socialist thought on which the welfare state and much other post war progress was based. With a membership of 58,000 it also published some misguided views of Stalinist Russia in the 1930s. This first edition of Orwell’s profile of living conditions in industrial Britain is the most collectible of the series. In particularly nice condition. £95 if you’re interested.
