I'm a little late to the party, but I wanted to offer a huge congratulations and lots of love to the wonderful Patrice Lawrence MBE on becoming the latest Waterstones Children's Laureate. I first met Patrice a number of years ago when she, and four other YA debutantes came to the shop as part of the Lost and Found tour. I adored her debut novel, Orangeboy, and have followed her career avidly since. She deserves this accolade and I know she's going to be a wonderful ambassador for the children's book world.

Sorry to startle you, but it's the last day to buy your dad a book for Father's Day. It's Father's Day on Sunday and it's a well known fact that dads love books. We've got all sorts of books he'll love, whether he's into sport or music or comedy. Maybe he'd rather read a high octane novel set in the motor racing like Backmarker by Kieran Jordan or the latest gripping thriller by Luca Veste. Of course, if you don't know what he'd like, book tokens are a great idea too. We're open til 5 on Saturday if you've left it to the last minute!

Thanks to Jude Lennon for sharing this brilliant quote for . But in a funny kind of way, it's our customers who own the books in our shop. I often order titles in because I know they're the sort of books my regulars like and then carefully place them on the displays so that they can be discovered there. It's the kind of relationship that only indie bookshops can have with their loyal customers (or 'friends' as I like to call them.)
