Hands up who wants a free book token? Thought so!
Hands up who wants a free book token just for reading books for pleasure? Yes, we thought you'd like that idea too!
We've teamed up with our good friends at National Book Tokens to launch our Summer Reading Challenge. Here's how it works.
1. Pick up a form from the shop between now and September 1st. We'll give you a free bookmark when you do.
2. Read five books and write them on the form.
3. Bring the completed form back to us and we'll give you a High Five voucher that can be used online to claim a free £5.00 book token (Ts and Cs apply, but then you'd expect them to!)
It's a simple as that (though under 16s will need to ask an adult very nicely to claim the voucher for them)

We've been banging on all year about how much fun it is to read books and now you can get rewarded for it too! You don't have to have bought the books here, though obviously we'd love it if you did and if ebooks or audio are your bag, we're not going to ask!

So this is your incentive to Go All In and read some great books this summer!

Who'd have thought it?
When the doors to Write Blend opened 11 years ago today, it was in the firm belief that Waterloo needed a bookshop. It was the belief that bookshops are essential to promote literacy, reading for pleasure and the benefits to mental wellness that come with it. 11 years later, I believe that more than ever. It hasn't been easy; Covid took our coffee shop and with it many of the groups who met here. Independent bookshops are under constant attack from online stores and the supermarkets, who want a big share of our business but offer none of the benefits. The fact that I'm still here after 11 years is thanks to all the special people who support this shop. There are the customers who gladden my heart by saying "I'd rather shop with you." There are the authors who come here to do events, whether it be to an audience of dozens, or just an afternoon chatting with me. There are the publishers who put authors my way. There are the lovely folk who share our social media posts. To all of you, thank you from the bottom of my heart. You're why I get up every morning and come here. You give what I do meaning. Thank you all x

Lovely to meet Emma Davies - Writer this afternoon and hear all about her brilliant debut novel Riches to Rags. If you missed her, we have signed copies in the shop. Better still, why not pop along to the Literary Escapes Festival at Old Christ Church tomorrow. You'll like Emma. She's very nice.

Plenty of books are now in stock for our signing with Emma Davies - Writer on Friday. I've been lucky enough to read an advance copy and I can honestly say that if you like Liverpool sagas, or just a really good read, you'll enjoy this book as much as I did. Every copy comes with a free bookmark and I was honoured that Lost the Plot Creative quoted me on it! It's and a report on the radio claimed that exposure to the arts can actually be beneficial in slowing the ageing process. I can well believe that. Reading for pleasure is good for your mental wellness; it offers relaxation, escape and even information that can reassure. Books might not contain things with long names like the face creams they advertise on the telly, but they're just as beneficial and some say they smell just as good!
