🐝 Bee Question of the Day! 🐝

A lovely follower asked me:
"Does capped brood give off pheromones? And if so, how does it affect the hive?"

Great question — and the answer is yes!
While open brood (uncapped larvae) produces the strongest pheromones, capped brood also releases subtle chemical signals that still impact the colony.

Here’s how capped brood affects the hive:

🔸 Thermoregulation: Worker bees get the signal to keep the brood warm — around 34.5°C — which is crucial for healthy development.
🔸 Hygienic Behavior: If something goes wrong under the cap (like disease or dead pupae), the pheromone signals can help trigger a clean-up response.
🔸 Colony Balance: The presence of brood (even capped) influences foraging patterns, nurse bee activity, and overall hive structure.

So yes — even capped brood is quietly communicating with the colony. 🐝✨ The hive is always buzzing with invisible messages!

Keep the great questions coming!💛
