Cerys is in the Witch Haus today offering tarot readings! 🔮

If you’ve got something playing on your mind, need a little clarity about what lies ahead, or simply feel drawn to the cards, pop in and have a reading with her.

Cerys is a wonderfully intuitive, honest reader who tells you what the cards are actually showing, not simply what she thinks you want to hear.

Walk-ins are very welcome, so come in, have a browse around the shop and let Cerys take a look at what’s unfolding around you.

How to Banish an Unwelcome Entity and Reclaim Your Home

People ask me about strange energy in their homes surprisingly often. Usually, it isn’t anything dramatic. A room suddenly feels oppressive, sleep becomes disturbed, an animal refuses to enter a certain area, or there’s the persistent feeling that somebody else is present.

Before assuming the worst, check the ordinary possibilities. Draughts, pipes, mould, faulty electrics and carbon monoxide can all create unsettling experiences. A sensible witch checks the physical world as well as the spiritual one.

If the atmosphere still feels occupied or intrusive, it may be residual energy, a lingering spirit or an unwanted entity. These aren’t necessarily the same thing. Residual energy behaves more like an emotional imprint, while a spirit presence may feel aware and responsive.

This is where people often get cleansing and banishing mixed up. Cleansing removes accumulated energy. Banishing removes a particular presence. Protection seals the space afterwards. If you only cleanse, you may never clearly tell the presence to leave. If you banish without protecting the home afterwards, you leave the boundary vague.

You don’t need to scream, threaten the dead or fill the house with so much smoke that the neighbours call the fire brigade. Calm authority works far better than panic.

Clean the room physically, open a window, then work from the furthest part of the home towards an external door. Use incense, sound, salt water or spoken words to move the energy ahead of you. Tell the presence clearly that it has no permission to remain, attach or return. Once it has gone, close the door, seal the thresholds and fill the home with the energy you actually want there.

Your home belongs to the living people who are loved within it. You decide what may enter, what may stay and what must leave.

🔮 HOW TO BUILD YOUR FIRST WITCH’S ALTAR

People ask me what they need for their first witch’s altar surprisingly often, usually while showing me a photograph of something covered in enormous crystals, expensive statues and enough candles to heat the entire house.

The honest answer is that you don’t need half of it.

A witch’s altar is a place for magical or spiritual work. It can be a whole cabinet, a small table, a shelf or even a wooden box that you put away afterwards. What matters is that the space has meaning and that you can actually use it.

Start with its purpose. Is it for spellwork, divination, your ancestors, a deity or spirit, or simply somewhere quiet to connect with your practice? Once you know that, choosing what belongs there becomes much easier.

A candle, a heatproof dish and one object that represents your path are enough to begin. You can add herbs, crystals, incense, a chalice, cauldron or magical tools as your practice develops, but please don’t feel that you must buy everything immediately. Personally, I think an altar built slowly has far more character than one ordered from a shopping list in a single afternoon.

It doesn’t need to copy anybody else’s altar either. Add the stone you found on a meaningful walk, a family photograph, a handwritten petition, a shell, a key or something you’ve made yourself. Those personal objects are often the things that give an altar its life.

Your first altar won’t be its final version. It should change as you learn, work and discover what genuinely belongs in your practice.

Leaving Christianity does not always mean leaving its fear behind.

Sometimes the language simply changes. Sin becomes “bad karma”, Hell becomes the Threefold Law, and divine punishment becomes “the universe teaching you a lesson”. The same old fear is still sitting underneath it all, wearing a pentacle instead of a cross.

Witchcraft should help you question inherited beliefs, not quietly rebuild the same prison with prettier stones.
