I love these hissers and was generally gutted the adults were dropping off. I’m now wondering if it was just old age, as the remaining ones have since produced these little nymphs.
I’ve said it once, I’ll say it a thousand times, keeping invertebrates is a roller coaster. One minute you’re up, the next you’re down, but it’s all a journey.

We had an awesome day at the Bournemouth Bug Show, thanks to everyone who came and said hi and everyone who ran the show.
Picked up a few bits for myself, including these two gorgeous Monkey Grasshoppers (Erucius bifasciatus) and the Armadillo officinalis ‘Pink’.
Also picked up a mature male OBT (Pterinochilus murinus) to hopefully pair with my female and some Orange Domino Roaches (Therea regularis).

Cubaris sp. ‘Crabby’ are definitely a top 10 species in my collection. Their little skirts and black eyes just make them super adorable. I was a little worried when I first got them, as I lost one fairly quickly and they took a fair old while to mature, but they’re doing super well now, can’t really tell from the video, but they’re tiny babies in the enclosure as well. I say ‘tiny babies’, they come off mum pretty big already (compared to other pods).

Dun dun dun, another new species! (In the style of Queen - another one bites the dust). These ones are pretty awesome and don’t seem to have a lot of info online. I have been looking after them at my work for a while and they’re doing ok there. So fingers crossed if I match care we should be on to a winner.

These guys are a neat little pod, they’re grey with kinda lilac undertones. I’m always happy to find baby isopods, but even more so when it’s the first ones a colony has produced for me.
It’s important to always have your phone when checking in on your pods, so you can record things like new babies. 🙈

Cubaris sp. ‘Blind Saturn’.

These guys are a blind species from Southeast Asia. It’s not unheard of for animals who spend generations in total darkness to loose their eyes completely. Back when I kept fish a favourite species of mind was Blind Cave Fish or Mexican Tetra (Astyanax mexicanus).

Porcellio werneri are a popular pod, and it’s easy to see why. They’re a very unique shape and the contrast of the grey woth white skirt makes them visually attractive as well.
Being from drier habitat also increases the appeal to me, they do still need a moist spot, so they can hydro regulate properly, but this only has to be a small area of the enclosure. Increased ventilation is also a very important factor for these awesome pods.
