Just completed the full service on this classic Kenwood Chef. It’s had gearbox strip down and regrease, new feet, updated electrical components, new felt grease trap and food safe grease in planetary gear. What a retro colour. This one we are going to sell £70 will get this lovely machine plus 3 mixing paddles and the mincer attachment. If interested, let us know.

Today, we had a laugh when one customer likened us to Santas little elves, busy working away on a guitar amplifier, power controller, battery drill, carpet cleaner, steamers and an iron. There we limited space to move with so much going on. Parts for future repairs have been ordered and other parts arrived late today to help us get to work on more repairs.

Monday 2nd we will be making big changes to the Repair Shop and Tool Library zones in the LCDT Hub, so expect us to be busy moving benches, fitting shelves, etc.

Just a couple of repairs being worked on this week. LED lamp and Kenwood Chef. Other items being repaired which we don’t have photos of include: Dyson vacuum, laptop lid and hinge damage, standard lamp, music box, hedge trimmer, guitar amplifier, steamer.

FYI. Our repair team, tool library and shed members will be busy helping to do some changes in the Hub on
Monday 2nd November. The Repair Shop will be open for repairs but we ask if you can try and avoid dropping off or collecting items on that specific day to help us focus on the remodelling of the Tool Library racking. A big task…

Recalls….

We also spotted that one item in for a mechanical repair was actually identified as needing recalled by the manufacturer for an electrical fire risk.

If you have one of these rotating fan heaters from Dyson (see picture), please double check if your model and serial number if impacted as there’s a small risk of fire with the product and we don’t want that. The website below allows you to check by model number and serial number.

If you do discover your own fan unit is due for recall it would be good to know if our post helped you. Broadcasting such news items brings a wider benefit than just repairing the faulty ones.

There’s also the UK Gov recall website but strangely it doesn’t list this fan heater. Perhaps because the recall was first started in 2014.

A busy Monday morning at the Repair shop. Our repair team were working on a guitar amplifier, random orbital sander, air fryer, strimmer, lamp and more. A few items were collected and several more received and booked in. Some spare parts were ordered for other repairs.

We also looked at some ideas for expanding our repair space and merging with the tool library for a combined circular economy zone. Much work needs done to make it all possible.

Morning all.

Today we will celebrate International Repair Day. One little dot on a global map of repair shops and repair cafe events taking place to promote the benefits of repairing stuff.

Some benefits are less visible. Fixing items with a sentimental value to the owner, giving retired repairers opportunities to use their skills and to get involved in community work, learning new skills, keeping the public safe from electrical risks, encouraging local shopping, etc.

Plans are developing to expand our service but it will cost money. We need new lighting, more electrical sockets, specialist tools, shelving and more. Your donations go a long way to help us grow our service.

We were delighted to be involved in last night's Repair Cafe event at Holyrood, organised by Circular Communities Scotland. We had the opportunity to tell the story of our repair shop, meet with MSPs and explain the impact repair has in our community.

Circular economy legislation in Scotland over the last couple of years will hopefully open the door for more government support akin to what we're seeing in the EU. Repair vouchers, easily accessed 'Repairability Indices' and producer responsibility would all make a huge difference to the way we choose to consume, care for and eventually dispose of our items.

Let's keep shouting loudly about repair! 🔧

Many many thanks to everyone who dropped onto the Repair Shop to say hello or to discuss a potential future repair.

We managed to fix a few items today and have ordered parts for more repairs next week.

Thanks also to everyone who purchased items from the Tool Sale run by Linlithgow Community Shed. All proceeds help with heating, lighting, glue, paint and other bits needed to help run the Shed and the Tool Library.

We will be back on Monday to continue with repairs we have in queue.

We at Linlithgow Repair Shop are delighted to be invited along to the Holyrood Repair Cafe - the first repair event to be held in the Scottish Parliament. We look forward to discussing community repair with the MSPs, and sharing some stories with fellow repairers.

It’s one week until our Holyrood Repair Café at The Scottish Parliament!

In one weeks’ time Circular Communities Scotland and our Share and Repair Network will host our first ever Parliamentary Repair Café.

This invite only event offers a unique opportunity for MSPs to see the amazing work repair cafés across Scotland do, offering the opportunity for communities to fix items they love instead of throwing them away.

We believe the benefits of all community reuse, repair and sharing charities and social enterprises should be recognised – which is why we’re looking forward to asking MSPs to pledge to for Scotland’s reuse, sharing and repairing charities. Stay tuned for more campaign information next week.

A wide variety of things to fix this week. Steam Irons seem to be a real problem with several in for repair with different faults, some are quite challenging to fix. We have also been working on HiFi, food mixers, tyre pressure pump, hedge trimmer and vacuum cleaners.

We have several repair volunteers on holiday right now so have plenty to work on and little capacity to take on more until 1st or 2nd week in Oct.
