Mission Accomplished! God has brought us to a difficult decision and The Letchworth Christian Bookshop is now closed.
BRI Business Recovery and Insolvency are assisting with the winding up of the business. Please contact their Hitchin office on 01462 429718 if you need to speak to them.

We know how much our regular customers appreciated using our bookshop and many travelled some way to visit us. The following three shops are probably our nearest Christian bookshops still trading:

Dear Church Leaders and supporters of the Christian Bookshop,
We are writing to confirm that we have made the difficult decision to finally close the shop.
Our closing down sale begins today with massive savings throughout.
As we have said before this is God’s business. We clearly feel now that He is saying it is time
to stop and to make way for new ways of communicating in changing times.
It is of course a time to mourn the loss of the friendly and familiar “church on the high street”,
but also a time to celebrate what He has accomplished in and through this place, not just the
provision of Bibles, books and other resources, but also the conversations, prayers and
outreach that have taken place over the years.
It’s worth reflecting on how much has changed since the shop first opened in Hitchin in the
early 1960’s, before CD’s and DVD’s, card machines, and of course the internet and 24/7
online shopping. Shopping then was a local rather than global experience and we still lived
in the slower era of early closing on Wednesdays and before Sunday trading.
In this new online age we encourage you and your Christian communities to continue to
access Bibles and Christian literature and music through Christian websites such as
eden.co.uk and standrewsbookshop.co.uk
We count it a privilege to have been able to serve the local community of believers and
enquirers through half a century of transition and are truly thankful for the large family of
staff and volunteers who have supported this ministry. We are grateful also for the prayers,
practical support and financial contributions of so many over the years.
On a practical note we would remind you to redeem any gift tokens you may have and to
collect any outstanding customer orders. For those who have supported us financially please
cancel immediately any standing orders you have made to the shop. And do please take
advantage of the closing down sale!
So, it’s goodbye from this shop but let us continue in prayer together for God to raise up
those who will bring the Good News of Jesus Christ to the next generation.

Dear Church Leaders and supporters of The Christian Bookshop,

We last wrote to you in October and explained some of the immediate challenges for the Christian bookshop. In particular Covid related staffing issues had led to restricted opening hours, with a direct and serious impact on our takings.
We are thankful to have finished the year in credit, largely thanks to Government grants and the generosity of supporters. However underlying trading conditions are on a downward trend and the closure of the shop looks fairly inevitable. The Trustees will meet at the end of January to make a final decision on closure.
We have always said that this shop is God’s business. We are thankful for His leading thus far and are trusting Him for whatever He has planned for the future of Christian witness on the high street in North Herts.

Please share this news with your church family. We would very much value your prayers at this time.

If you still have items to buy, then we are open at the Christian Bookshop until 4pm today so you still have a few hours to complete your shopping. Lots of books and gifts still available to delight your family and friends.

We next open at 10am on 4th January 2022.

May all of us at the Bookshop say a big THANK YOU to everyone who has supported us, prayed for us and shopped with us (when regulations have allowed) over this last year. As with all High Street businesses it has certainly not been an easy year, but we praise God that we are still here and able to provide the needs of his church in our town (and further afield).

We look forward to greeting you all in the coming year.
