๐ An important update from The Sweet Scoop ๐ฌ
This is one of the hardest posts weโve ever had to write, and we wanted to do it properly โ in our own words.
With very heavy hearts, The Sweet Scoop Shop on the High Street has now closed.
For those who may not know the full story, this little shop has been family-owned for many years. When the gentleman everyone knew who previously ran it found another job, the owner was preparing to close the doors. Weโd helped cover the shop during our summer holidays before, and when we heard it would close for good, we moved here to keep it going โ because we believed in it, and very quickly, we believed in this community too.
Unfortunately, over time, rising rent and a premises that simply wasnโt up to standard or justifiable for the cost made things increasingly difficult. With the lease coming to an end, the owner made the decision that it was time for a change โ for us itโs been sudden and heartbreaking.
This past year has also been one of the toughest for everyone. For us, our car was attacked in March and wasnโt finally repaired until October. We had close family members back home in Northern Ireland who became seriously unwell as well as us both becoming ill multiple times ourselves. As some of you know, one of us lives with chronic illness and disabilities which even just the common cold can cause severe flare-ups that sometimes make working impossible. None of our closures were through choice or lack of effort.
What we can say with absolute certainty is that we gave this shop everything we had. Our time, our energy, our love โ and then some. We lived and breathed The Sweet Scoop, and we have fallen completely in love with this community and the people who walked through our door every day.
We also want to acknowledge that there were some opening time changes over the year. We understand that this caused some confusion, and weโre genuinely sorry for that. Those changes were never about a lack of commitment โ they were about navigating circumstances as best we could at the time. We hope those who supported us regularly saw just how much care went into the shop on every day we were open.
We are also sorry that we werenโt able to update you all sooner. At the start of this month we were both very unwell, one of us is still on antibiotics and recovering, and everything behind the scenes moved very quickly- Right now, every single bit of stock and material from the shop is in our flat๐
Anyone who knew the shop knows just how much we packed into such a small space ๐ซฃโ and weโre slowly sorting through it all with very full heartsโค๏ธ
โจ What happens next?โจ
We are not giving up ๐
๐ We are actively looking for new, suitable premises so we can return to doing what we love โ bringing smiles to kidsโ faces and helping adults step back into their memories for a momentโจ
Our hope is to come back bigger and better, and to stay in and around this beautiful community that welcomed us so warmly.
In the meantime:
๐ญ Weโll be continuing online, with postal and local deliveries
๐ฌ If youโre a regular looking for your usual sweet fix, please message us
๐ Sweet cones, bags and gifts are still available โ made with the same care, the same standards, and the same love
Our website is being updated and weโll keep you all informed as we work quietly behind the scenes.
Because we werenโt well enough to be in the shop during the last few weeks, we want to say this clearly: Thank you. Thank you for the kindness, the chats, the patience, the support, and for letting us be part of so many happy moments for children and families over the years. Being part of this community has meant more to us than we can put into words๐
We are not gone. We will be back๐ฅฐ
Please bear with us while we organise stock and update the website โ and donโt hesitate to message if you need any sweet gifts or sugary fixes in the meantime๐ญ
Lastly, we want to say a huge thank you to Scott, who helped clear the shop and move everything at incredibly short notice. He has been an absolute lifesaver all year and went above and beyond for us โค๏ธ
If anyone needs anything cleared or moved, we cannot recommend him enough:

Thank you for reading, and for being the community we were so proud to be part of.
