⚡️Wakefield AC Update 📋⚡
Friday tea time we travelled down to Telford in Shropshire to fish the Angling Trust Competitions National Celebration of Young Anglers on the Shropshire Union Canal, a venue that most of us have never seen before. Saturday was to be the cadets match for ages 10 and under and Sunday we had a team in the young juniors ages 11-12 although we were one short for that so my nephew Aren Capewell said he would step up and fish in the older age group being aged 10.
All the team did amazing, but star of the day and weekend was Owen Hopkinson who fished a blinder. He drew a decent area but fished brilliantly and had to work hard to get his reward. He caught lots of small roach, perch, and gudgeon throughout the day but it was his track/bonus line that came up trumps. After pulling out of a bream at the halfway stage he kept his cool and topped up the line praying for another one to come over his groundbait and chopped worm. Luckily shortly after he slid the net under a Bream just shy of 3lb to really boost his weight up and get the section points the team needed.
At the weigh in he put 2k120g on the scales for the all important section win.
Not only did he win the section, he managed 2nd overall out of 99 narrowly missing out in individual glory by a couple of ounces. They all got trophies, mugs, medals and tackle prizes for their efforts. Better still to come on the team front!
Team Wakefield (sponsored by BobCo Tackle) came 2ND out of 32 teams again just missing out by a few points on being outright champions at their first attempt.
What a result, everybody was buzzing, what a weekend, what a great set of kids!
