How to measure your shank length for a Weymouth or Pelham 👇

The measurement for a Weymouth or Pelham cheek is taken from below the mouthpiece to the bottom of the shank.

Most shanks are available in:
✔️ 5cm
✔️ 7cm
✔️ 9cm

It’s also important to remember that the British Dressage legal limit on shank length is 10cm.

As a general rule:
➡️ Shorter shanks = less leverage and a milder effect
➡️ Longer shanks = more leverage and increased poll and chin groove pressure

Choosing the right length can make a big difference to the overall feel of the bit and how your horse responds in the contact 🐴
