Did you see the solar eclipse?

Back in 1999 Rachael and I were both very underwhelmed by the eclipse. We thought it would go fully dark rather than a bit dusky and I certainly didn't see much through my pinhole camera.

With that experience we weren't too concerned about seeing the eclipse yesterday until we opened our Octopus Energy e-mail which included details of their competition. 🐙

Oooooh now this sounds interesting.

What started out as, "how can we make a pinhole camera and watch the eclipse inside a box?", morphed into "oooh, we can make an octopus, hang on, two octopuses meeting under the half light of the solar eclipse and finding love." 🐙💜😃

Creativity is so healing as well as embracing our childlike side and having fun.

Yesterday we certainly did that.

It was great fun putting it all together, but also made for a much more memorable experience seeing lots of mini eclipses creating the shape of a couple of Octopuses and watching the change as the eclipse occurred.

Your sofa might feel comfy, but is it actually supporting you?

One of the problems with deep, soft sofas is that they can make it very easy to collapse backwards and lose the natural curves of your spine.

It might not feel like much at the time, but the way we sit day after day can gradually increase the strain on the muscles, joints, ligaments and discs of the back.

And that’s really the point. Good posture isn’t about sitting bolt upright or being rigid. It’s about giving your spine the support it needs while you relax.

We're back after an action packed holiday in Iceland.

It was one of those "sign up to our newsletter and be in with a chance of winning a holiday...."

"...Yeah, why not?" moments.

It was a bit of a shock when I received the call, and the timing couldn't have been better. What a lovely way to prolong Rachael's 50th birthday celebrations.

It didn't take Lorna and me long to settle on Iceland as our chosen destination. We picked what is considered one of their best weather months, and these are words we never thought we'd utter.....we were glad to get away from the heat of the UK 😲

We saw the forecast of 'real feel 3 degrees' and laughed about the fact that we wouldn't need our sunscreen, before we went away..... so to experience 20 degrees+ on some days was a little unexpected.

In true Morecombe and Wise style we had all the right clothes but wore them in the wrong order with the glacier walk being the warmest day 🤪

Geysers, waterfalls aplenty, a glacier walk, the obligatory Blue Lagoon experience, icebergs and puffins (ahhhhhh... they're adorable! 🤩).

Just one spectacular sight after another.

We packed so much into the week that it feels like we've been away for much longer in a good way. Lorna Kennard-Wall 🦋 and myself both feel rejuvenated, refreshed and raring to go.

When we invented the Sittingwell® back support cushion we knew we wanted it to be made in the UK.

We were lucky to find two companies close to our old clinic who could do what was needed.

So when one of them stopped we had to stop production.

The hunt for a new maker hit dead end after dead end. At one point we started to look overseas.

So, we were really pleased when a chance conversation led us to a company that could make them right on our doorstep in our new Somerset location.

Suttons are just down the road from our clinic, about 10 minutes in the car.

This means you know that every cushion is supporting a British business (Even the care labels are from a South-West supplier).

And the miles from manufacturer to posting them out to you is minimal. At the moment, we walk them the mile down the road to the local post office ourselves.

As we grow, we promise to keep our carbon footprint down, even though our foot step will remain the same.

Do you ever get to the end of the day and realise your back feels stiff, tight or achy?

Most of us spend hours sitting each day at work, and it's easy for posture to slip.

Old ideas about good posture can also lead to extra strain on the back, especially from the classic "Sit Up Straight" and knees in line with your hips ideas of the past.

That's why we like the idea of a river, and in this case the THAMES as a reminder of the little things you can do each day to help.

It's an easy way to remember a few simple habits that can help reduce unnecessary strain on your back.

💧T – Tall
Lengthen through your chest and neck rather than collapsing into your chair.

💧H – Hips
Keep your hips slightly higher than your knees to encourage a healthier sitting position.

💧A – Ahead
Keep your work close and directly in front of you to reduce twisting and reaching.

💧M – Move
Your body was designed to move. Changing position regularly helps prevent tension from building up.

💧E – Even
Notice if you're leaning more to one side or standing with your weight through one leg. Small imbalances soon become habits.

💧S – Sip
Your spinal discs rely on water to stay healthy, so don't forget to keep hydrated throughout the day.

We talked ourselves out of it.

I loved it when a customer sent this photo of their newly purchased Sittingwell® Cushion on their sofa, hidden amongst their other cushions.

Both Rachael and I had a go a guessing which was our back support cushion.

We both went for one option then inspected more and talked ourselves out of it. I went for one option, Rachael another and we were both wrong! 🤣😂🤣

So if we can’t tell the back support from an ordinary scatter cushion, I think we’ve done our job.

The whole idea was to create something that didn’t stand out, but gave genuine support to your spine.
