We’re absolutely delighted to be welcoming the incredibly talented Chas Jacobs to Indigo Arts & Crafts Holiday Club on Monday 10th August for an exclusive guest workshop!

Many of our Holiday Club families will remember Chas from previous visits, and we’re absolutely thrilled to be welcoming him back once again.

A celebrated local artist with a deep love for the beautiful Lune Valley, Chas is passionate about inspiring the next generation of young artists. Through his work in local schools and the wider community, he encourages children to look at the world through creative eyes, embrace their imagination, and discover the joy of making art.

We’re incredibly lucky that he’s chosen to spend the day with our Holiday Club children, sharing his skills, techniques and enthusiasm in what promises to be one of the highlights of the summer.

✨🏴‍☠️ Unlocking imaginations with a little magic… ✨📚

One of the highlights of Tuesday’s Holiday Club was welcoming the wonderful Beth from Magical Story Jars, who delivered an enchanting, sensory, storytelling workshop that had every child completely captivated from start to finish.

Rather than beginning with a blank piece of paper, Beth transforms story writing into an exciting adventure. Hidden inside beautiful treasure chests were all kinds of fascinating trinkets and mysterious objects for the children to discover. Each child carefully chose special treasures to inspire their own unique characters, magical items and exciting plot twists, proving that even the smallest object can spark the biggest imagination. 🗝️💎🧜‍♀️

But the magic didn’t stop there…

She also introduced a collection of incredible scented treasure chests, each transporting the children to a completely different world. They closed their eyes and breathed in the aromas of salty seas, tropical volcanic islands, colourful flower-filled meadows, enchanted forests and even the magical end of a rainbow! 🌊🌋🌸🌈

Using all of their senses, the children imagined where their adventures would take place before bringing their ideas together to create wonderful original stories. It was amazing to see how the same collection of treasures inspired completely different tales, each one as imaginative and unique as the child who created it.

These award-winning workshops are designed to make story writing accessible, exciting and confidence-building for every child. By combining sensory experiences, imaginative play and creative thinking, she helps children discover that storytelling isn’t about getting everything ‘right’—it’s about having the confidence to let your imagination lead the way.

At Indigo Arts & Crafts, we’re passionate about giving children opportunities they might not experience elsewhere, and workshops like this are a perfect example of the enriching experiences we love to bring to Holiday Club. Watching children become completely immersed in a world of imagination, creativity and storytelling was simply magical. ✨

Some visitors leave tiny hoofprints... and a very big impression. 🐴💚

Foxy and Deli turned an ordinary holiday club morning into something the children will be talking about for a long time. From learning how to care for ponies to discovering just how gentle, clever and unique they are, every moment sparked curiosity, confidence and plenty of smiles.

A huge thank you to Camilla, Maisie and The Tiny Pony Parlour for sharing your knowledge and giving our children such a memorable experience.

🦇 What a bat-tastic afternoon! 🦇

We had a very special visitor yesterday afternoon when Benji ‘The Bat Man’ from the North Lancashire Bat Group joined us for an incredible interactive workshop all about one of Britain’s most misunderstood mammals.

The children were completely captivated as they discovered just how amazing bats really are. They listened brilliantly during Benji’s presentation, taking on the challenge of remembering lots of fascinating facts ready for the end of session quiz - and they absolutely smashed it! 👏

There was plenty of hands-on fun too! We made our own paper bats, strung them up for display, tested out a night vision camera, planted a selection of night-pollinator wildflowers, grasses and teasels to help local wildlife, and even followed a step by step guide to draw our own bats.

🦇 Did you know?

• The UK is home to 18 different species of bat.
• Every single one of them is protected because their populations are under pressure from habitat loss, disturbance to roosts and declining insect numbers.
• Bats are nature’s pest controllers, eating thousands of insects such as moths, midges and mosquitoes each night!
• Different species hunt in different ways – some skim over ponds and rivers, while others weave through woodland hunting insects.

Want to help bats in your own garden?
🌙 Plant evening and night-flowering plants such as evening primrose, honeysuckle, jasmine and night-scented stock, along with native wildflowers and grasses.
💧 Leave a shallow source of fresh water.
🚫 Avoid using pesticides, as bats rely on insects for food.
🏡 If you have space, consider putting up a bat box to provide a safe place to roost.

If you’d like to see bats in action, keep an eye out for local bat walks run by the North Lancashire Bat Group, RSPB Leighton Moss and other local wildlife organisations. They’re a fantastic way to experience these incredible nocturnal creatures using special bat detectors that let you hear their echolocation calls!

Yesterday we were treated to a truly magical guest workshop as we welcomed The Tiny Pony Parlour to holiday club! 🐴💚

A huge thank you to Camilla, along with her wonderful helper Maisie, for bringing the gorgeous Foxy and Deli to spend the morning with us. The children (and staff!) absolutely loved meeting them, enjoying plenty of pony cuddles, learning how to groom them, and even having a go at plaiting their beautiful manes.

As always, our guest workshops are about so much more than just having fun – they’re all about giving children enriching experiences and opportunities to learn from real experts.

Did you know?

🐴 Shetland ponies are one of the strongest pony breeds for their size and were once used to pull carts, carry peat and even work in coal mines because they were small enough to fit through the tunnels.
🐴 Their thick double coats, long manes and tails help protect them from the harsh weather of the Shetland Islands, where the breed originated thousands of years ago.
🐴 Their short, sturdy legs and compact bodies aren’t just adorable – they’re perfectly adapted for surviving rugged landscapes and powerful winds.
🐴 Stallions (male ponies) usually have more teeth than mares because they often develop canine teeth.
🐴 Grooming isn’t just about keeping ponies looking smart – brushing them can be incredibly relaxing, almost like a massage, helping them feel calm while strengthening the bond between pony and handler.

Watching the children’s confidence grow as they gently cared for Foxy and Deli was so lovely to see. There were smiles everywhere, lots of fascinating questions, and plenty of memories made.
