As ever, I’m on a mission to find more ways to prevent stocking stitch from curling without adding a distinct edge (because sometimes an obvious border of garter/rib stitch would just look naff). To this end, I present a single row of crocheted knit stitches…that’s it. One row of single crochets worked into the ‘V’ of each bound-off knit stitch on a slightly smaller hook (I used a 3.5mm hook and 4mm needles for the knitting). It isn’t completely invisible; it’s slightly thicker and you can see that there’s an edge there, but it’s tolerably subtle and super quick and easy! Happy days ☺️

Yarn is WYS Elements in 1102 Cool Aloe; the pattern is my own.

I’m working on a top-down cardigan with set in sleeves integrated in (for later colourwork and/or cabling reasons!) and I’m playing around with leaning increases. There’s no right or wrong way to direct your increase; it produces a different effect each way, and I’ve previously used alternating directions to help blur a join! It’s quite interesting to see the difference though, so here’s a comparison. The first photo has the increases leaning away from the join, whereas the second photo has them leaning towards. Which do you prefer?

Does anyone else have parents who called holes in socks ‘spuds’? Like, there’s a spud in your sock… Trying desperately to cling to the whimsy today because I HATE darning socks 😡 This isn’t even one that I knitted but it’s the daughter’s favourite pair and she did the puppy eye thing when I said they were beyond saving 🥺 I watched a tutorial that said it takes about 10 minutes to complete. How??? I’ve been at it for half an hour already and it’s not even at the bunching together stage yet. What am I doing wrong??? Jeez, I hate darning…

The knitting world can be a divisive one, with a variety of opinions on blocking, yarn composition, seams… gah, it goes on forever! BUT I think we are all agreed that Elizabeth Zimmermann’s advice to stop and admire your knitting every few rows is vital! To that end, please admire my beautiful uncurling stockinette stitch. I haven’t finished it yet. I may never finish the row because I can’t stop cooing and stroking every few stitches. I love it so much!!!
