I love ephemera: that odd ticket stub, flyer, leaflet which by its very nature was meant to be duscarded. By complete coincidence I was ruffling through our ephemera box, as Julian was compiling our March reflection which happens to be on Private Presses. http://bit.ly/42XjWIu

Due to (ahem) a few technical hitches, the first of our monthly musings (originally published in January) to celebrate our centenary year is linked below. We intend to issue the series to include historical reflections, celebrations, themed lists, a fully-fledged catalogue (due out in spring) and much more. Watch this space. The gorgeous illustration which uncannily resembles the office in our final London premises in Long Acre is from Rupert Croft-Cooke's The Numbers Came.

I am very grateful to everyone who has bought a copy of my book Animal Trust. As Christmas approaches, the rescue centre for elderly and abandoned animals at is, as ever, badly in need of funds. Sales of the book will help the rescue centre. There are copies still available, so it would be wonderful if there is a friend or family member who might like a copy as a present this Christmas. Simply me e-mail me at [email protected]

The price is £20 plus p&p and £2 for a special laminated bookmark. Merry Christmas!

Booksellers have many strings to their bow, but I must admit, sheep whispering is an unusual one. Alongside bookselling, Julian has been volunteering at a local animal rescue centre, and the book below is the result. It details his experiences there and various encounters with animals around the world. With a beautiful foreword by Chris Packham, and digressions (naturally) on the book trade, this is a gentle & uplifting read. See Ju's live video for order details.
