Lots and Lots of Massive Pipes!
After several weeks of mostly hand‑digging, the team has now installed a further 16.5 metres of new pipework — a huge achievement given the tight working conditions.
Squeezing each section down into the trench, manoeuvring it past the other services, joining it precisely, and setting the correct levels so the water gets the fastest possible flow is skilled, meticulous work.
Concrete is arriving soon, ready to be poured around the new manholes and to support the pavement alongside the freshly installed pipes. This will give the whole structure the strength it needs for the next stages.
Later in the week, an extra workforce will be on site to begin reinstating the kerbstones and some of the pavers, helping the area start to take shape again.
Looking ahead, plans are in motion to dig out and fit the new tree planters, bringing more greenery back into the space and giving the street a much‑needed lift once the heavy works are complete.
This week has also revealed some fascinating finds: well‑preserved bottles, a cow horn, and even some sheep’s teeth — little glimpses into Kingsbridge’s past. The bottles will no doubt be welcomed by the Cookworthy Museum to add to the town’s growing collection of local artefacts.
Week by week, the improvements are really starting to show.
