What's actually in your candle?
Here's something most people don't think about. Many high street candles — even the pricier ones — are made from paraffin wax. That's a petroleum by-product. When you burn it, it can release soot and potentially harmful chemicals into your home.
That's why we stock Hobo & Co. Every candle is hand-poured in small batches in rural Lincolnshire using 100% natural soy wax and pure essential oils. No synthetic fragrances. No parabens. No plastic.
We carry three scents, each blended for a different mood:
Rest — bergamot, lavender & patchouli. For winding down after a long day.
Bloom — rose, geranium & lavender. Uplifting and floral, like spring in a jar.
Roam — cedarwood, lemon & lemongrass. Energising, and a natural insect repellent too.
Each one burns for up to 25 hours, comes in a reusable glass jar, and costs £16.50. When the wax runs low, pop the leftovers in an oil burner — zero waste.
Handmade in Britain. Vegan. Cruelty-free. And kind to your wallet.

Here’s something that might surprise you: your body already makes hyaluronic acid. It’s a natural substance found in your skin, eyes, and joints. So why would you need more of it in your skincare? Because as we get older, we make less of it – and that’s when dry, dull skin starts to show up.

Check out our collection of hyaluronic acid skincare on the website (link in bio)

TL;DR

What Does It Actually Do?
Think of hyaluronic acid as a tiny sponge. It can hold up to 1,000 times its weight in water. When you put it on your skin, it draws moisture from the air and locks it in. The result? Skin that looks plumper, smoother, and more hydrated.

Unlike heavy creams that sit on top of your skin, hyaluronic acid works by pulling water into the deeper layers. This makes it brilliant for all skin types – even oily skin that doesn’t want thick, greasy products.

Why It’s Perfect for Sensitive Skin
Because your body recognises hyaluronic acid as something natural, it rarely causes reactions. This makes it one of the safest ingredients for people with eczema, rosacea, or skin that flares up at the slightest thing.

It’s also gentle enough to use every day, morning and night. No peeling, no irritation, no adjustment period. Just hydration that actually works.

The Benefits at a Glance
Hyaluronic acid helps your skin in several ways. It reduces the appearance of fine lines by plumping up the skin from within. It soothes dry, tight-feeling skin and gives a healthy glow without any greasiness. It also supports your skin’s natural barrier, helping it stay protected and balanced.

The Bottom Line
Hyaluronic acid isn’t a trend. It’s a tried-and-tested ingredient backed by science. It works for nearly everyone, plays nicely with other ingredients, and delivers visible results without harsh side effects.

If dry, thirsty skin is your problem, hyaluronic acid is the answer.

Ever looked at the back of a skincare bottle and felt completely lost? You’re not alone. Most of us have no idea what those long chemical names actually mean – or what they’re doing to our skin.

Here are ten of the worst offenders hiding in everyday products.

Synthetic fragrances are the number one cause of skincare allergies. A single “fragrance” listing can contain hundreds of undisclosed chemicals.

Sulphates (SLS, SLES) are foaming agents in cleansers and shampoos. They strip away your skin’s natural oils, leaving it dry and irritated.

Parabens are preservatives that mimic oestrogen in the body. Look out for methylparaben, propylparaben, and butylparaben on labels.

Phthalates are hormone disruptors often hidden under the word “fragrance.” They’re common in nail polish, hair spray, and perfumes.

Formaldehyde releasers like quaternium-15 and DMDM hydantoin slowly release formaldehyde – a known irritant and carcinogen.

PEGs (polyethylene glycols) help other chemicals pe*****te your skin more deeply. They can be contaminated with carcinogens.

Mineral oil is a petroleum by-product that clogs pores and creates a barrier trapping dirt and bacteria.

Triclosan is found in antibacterial products. It disrupts hormones and contributes to antibiotic resistance.

Oxybenzone is a chemical sunscreen that causes skin allergies and damages coral reefs.

Silicones (anything ending in “-cone”) give products a silky feel but can trap bacteria and stop your skin from breathing properly.

Eczema to Eco Beauty: Here's Why I Started Green Trading 🌿
Twenty years ago, I developed severe eczema after childbirth. The culprit? Synthetic chemicals in conventional skincare products.
Switching to natural, organic products healed my skin over a year.
That experience inspired me to launch Green Trading 15 years ago—a mission to help others with sensitive skin discover natural skincare that actually works.
Fast forward to today: Green Trading has been relaunched with a new website, the same curated list of high-performing products, but with a sharper focus on upcycled ingredients and sustainability. Why? Because the beauty industry is littered with greenwashing and the real sustainable brands are hard to find.
Here's what two decades has taught me:
🌱 You shouldn't have to choose between your skin health and the environment
🌱 Luxurious doesn't mean expensive—it means effective
🌱 The best products work, full stop, even if the packaging isn't so fancy.
