There are so many myths around saddle fitting and unfortunately, many of them can lead riders to wait far too long before checking whether their saddle is still supporting their horse properly.

One of the biggest misconceptions is that a saddle only needs checking if there is an obvious problem. In reality, horses change shape constantly through work, fitness, age, time off, muscle development, management and even the seasons throughout the year!

Another common myth is that a saddle being “made to measure” means it will fit forever. While a well-fitted saddle is a fantastic starting point, no saddle stays perfect indefinitely if the horse underneath it changes.

We also hear riders say things like “I barely ride in it” or “it fits my horse, so it must be fine for me too”. But saddle fit affects both horse and rider, and even occasional use can still create pressure, imbalance or discomfort if something has shifted over time.

And the good old chestnut “one saddle fits both my horses, because they’re the same breed!”

The good news is that most issues are much easier to address when spotted early.

Saddle fitting should feel like proactive support for your partnership, not something you only think about once your horse starts saying “no”.

SAVE this post as your reminder that small checks now can prevent much bigger problems later.

It suddenly feels like summer show season is right around the corner… and honestly, we could not be more excited ☀️

The early mornings.
Freshly bathed horses.
Coffee in hand walking the course.
Long days at beautiful venues.

That feeling when all the hard work starts coming together again.

And whilst the season can feel exciting, we also know it can feel BUSY.

That is why having the right support around you matters so much, from your horse’s comfort and saddle fit, to calm, organised transport and an extra pair of hands when you need them most.

Because show season should feel enjoyable, not overwhelming.

Whether you are heading out to local shows, training days, clinics, camp weekends or bigger competitions, have the best time!!

Most riders are looking for BIG signs that their saddle doesn’t fit…

But actually?

It is usually the tiny frustrations that tell the story first.

The ride where you can’t quite sit comfortably.
The moment your horse feels flatter than usual.
The random pole down.
The constant adjusting of your stirrups.
The saddle pad that never quite sits straight.

Nothing dramatic.
Nothing alarming.

Just lots of little things that slowly chip away at comfort, confidence, and performance.

And because they happen gradually, many riders simply adapt around them without realising.

You ride differently and your horse compensates.

You both work harder than you need to.

A well-fitting saddle should help everything feel easier, more balanced and more natural for BOTH of you.

Not something you are constantly trying to work around

That is why we created our free “Is Your Saddle Fitting?” checklist.

A simple guide to help you spot the small things that are easy to overlook, before they become bigger issues.

There is SO much choice when it comes to saddles now.

Different brands.
Different trees.
Different panels.
Different fits.
Different styles.

And when you are trying to make the best decision for both you and your horse, it can quickly start to feel overwhelming.

Especially when a saddle feels “nearly right” but something still feels slightly off.

Finding the right saddle is rarely about picking the most popular brand or buying what everyone else at the yard has.

It is about understanding what YOUR horse needs, what supports YOUR position and what will allow both of you to move comfortably and confidently together.

That is why having the right support and guidance matters so much.

We are incredibly proud to work alongside The Saddle Bank, which gives our clients access to a huge range of quality saddles across different brands, styles and budgets.

It means we are not limited to trying to “make something work”.

Instead, we can focus on helping you find the saddle that genuinely suits your horse and your riding.

If you are feeling overwhelmed by all the options, DM the word “SADDLE BANK” to find out more about the options we have available.

We know it can be challenging to find the right saddle fit…

Every horse is built differently, and that can make the search feel overwhelming, especially when certain saddles seem close, but not quite right.

But it’s important to remember that just because your friend has a certain brand and loves it, it doesn’t mean it’ll work for you too!

Each horse and rider combination requires different things from their saddle. Some riders need more supportive knee rolls, some horses need more space for their shoulders, others need something lightweight.

It’s never about one “best” brand, it’s about finding what actually suits your horse.

If you’re feeling unsure, DM the word “CALL” to book a FREE 10-minute call for honest guidance.

Saddle issues do not always show up as something dramatic. In fact, some of the earliest signs are so small that they are easy to dismiss at first.

A horse who is uncomfortable may start to show it through little changes in behaviour, movements or how they feel to ride.

And the sooner those changes are picked up, the easier it is to help them.

That is why we always encourage owners to notice the small things early, instead of waiting until it becomes a much bigger problem.

Your horse deserves to feel comfortable, supported, and able to move freely every time you ride.

Save this post as your reminder that you don’t have to wait until there’s a big issue to act.

This is what we’re really looking at when we assess your saddle…

Is your horse’s movement fluid on both reins?
How is your saddle impacting your posture?
Does your saddle provide support where you need it?
Is your saddle blocking your horse’s movement anywhere?

It’s not just a quick glance or a yes/no answer.

When we assess your saddle, we’re looking at the full picture… how it fits your horse, how it supports you as a rider and how it performs in motion.

Because a saddle might look fine standing still… but tell a completely different story when your horse is moving.

Swipe to see us break down exactly what we’re assessing (and why it matters) so you can better understand what’s going on beneath you when you ride.

Our goal is always the same:
✅ Comfort for your horse
✅ Balance for you
✅ And a setup that works long-term

This isn’t about finding problems for the sake of it.

It’s about understanding the details so we can make the right decisions for your horse.

If something has been feeling slightly “off”, don’t ignore it. DM us the words “PERFECT FIT” to have a chat, you can always book a free 10-minute call for honest advice.

We’ll be the first to say this…

👉 You might not need a new saddle.

A lot of people put off getting their saddle checked because they’re worried they’ll be told to replace it straight away. But in many cases, that’s not true.

Sometimes it’s:
• A small adjustment
• Reflocking
• A change in balance
• Or even just understanding how your horse has changed over time

Our focus is always the same… what’s best for your horse.
If your saddle is working, we’ll tell you.

If it needs tweaking, we’ll fix it.

And if a new saddle is the right option, we’ll guide you honestly through that too.

No pressure. No unnecessary selling. Just a long-term plan to keep your horse comfortable and moving well.

If something has been feeling slightly “off” when you ride, don’t wait for it to become a bigger issue.

You can download our FREE “Is Your Saddle Fitting Checklist” by sending us the word “CHECKLIST” so that you can reflect in your own time.

Because small changes now can make a big difference later.

What if your saddle fitting wasn’t limited to what’s in the van on the day?

That’s exactly why we partner with The Saddle Bank.

It gives us access to thousands of new and used saddles, so your fitting isn’t about “making do” with what’s available, it’s about finding what’s right for your horse.

And the biggest difference?

You’re not under pressure to decide on the spot.

Every saddle can be trialled for 14 days, so you can feel how your horse moves, responds and settles over time, not just in one session.

Because the right saddle isn’t just about how it looks or feels in the moment…

It’s about long-term comfort, performance, and trust.

This approach means:
• More choice for you
• Less risk
• No rushed decisions
• Options to sell or part exchange your old saddle
• And a process that truly puts your horse first

And if a saddle isn’t right? It goes back. Simple.

This isn’t about selling saddles, it’s about giving you the space and support to make the right decision.

If you’ve ever felt unsure or limited when saddle shopping… Let’s change that.

The smallest details create the biggest difference

In horse care, it’s rarely the obvious things that matter most… it’s the subtle ones.

The slight change in behaviour.
The feeling that something isn’t quite ‘right’.
The small shift in how your horse moves or responds.

As an owner or rider, you know your horse! It takes courage to trust that instinct that something needs attention.

And it’s the same for us.

We pay attention to the details others might overlook, because we know those small signs often tell the bigger story.

Whether it’s your horse’s comfort, your position or the way that small changes build up over time… It’s the attention to detail that protects comfort long-term.

Remember to trust your gut instinct, and if something feels slightly off, DM us the word “CHECK” and we’ll take a look together.
