Knitting Squares: Small Changes, Big Differences! 🧶

It’s fascinating how a tiny change in a pattern can completely transform the final result.

Here are two square-based patterns, both created using knit and purl sections. In the second version, just two additional columns are added between the squares, acting as “break lines” and interlocking with the pattern.

The first creates a beautiful textured fabric with almost flat, non-curling edges. The second folds naturally into a striking 3D structure!

A great reminder that even the smallest pattern adjustments can dramatically change how knitted fabric behaves.

Tuck Stitch Ribbing (Half Fisherman’s Rib) vs Traditional Ribbing 🧶

Traditional ribbing has been a favourite for generations, offering excellent elasticity and a classic appearance. But tuck stitch ribbing is an interesting alternative worth considering.

It creates a firmer fabric, offers two attractive sides to choose from, and can be knitted without a ribber. It also has a beautiful texture that can add extra character to a garment.

For some projects I still prefer traditional ribbing, but for others the tuck stitch version wins because of its structure, appearance, and simplicity.

Which do you prefer: traditional ribbing or tuck stitch ribbing? 🧶
