It's been a while, however, I was asked to make a place sign and leave it "bare" so that it's owner could apply the finish. Name and number carved out then filled with black milliput. Once hardened, I sanded the whole lot smooth and job done. Pleased with that one.

I really should check my phone more often because on looking for a photo, I recently took, I found a couple of shots of gifts I had been asked to make but omitted to tell anyone about. The dog paw was for a friend of a friend who had recently lost her dog. Luckily they had a photo of the dogs paw print so, as closely as I could, I carved out the paw on a solid Oak wooden heart and added the dogs name below. I've made a few of these over the years so if its something you would like, get in touch. The St Georges cross was carved from a full barrel lid and was for the husband of a good friend who is a proud Englishman and who was celebrating a "special" birthday. He proudly served his country in the RAF so I was asked to add his name as well as his RAF details so they too were added (blurred for the photos due to the personal details). In addition to this, a smaller gift was also requested so I came up with a mini barrel made out of old whisky barrel bungs, metal bands too, and then a drop of the good stuff enclosed within. As before I tend to just make things that people request so feel free to get in touch if you are looking for a personal gift that we can design between us to make sure its just right. Hope you like them, have a good night, cheers.

As you may have gathered, the current theme is solid oak, whisky cask , stave pieces and to add to the recent items I made another fruit bowl or table center piece. This is a biggy, measuring approx 75 cms long, 13 cms wide and 6 cms high in the center. A section of stave and 2 whisky cask bungs make the base.

DISPLAY YOUR NUTS THIS CHRISTMAS Another couple of whisky stave pieces made entirely from an old, used, solid oak whisky barrel. Using old whisky cask bungs as feet, the solid base piece is approximately 37 cms by 13 wide. The second piece with three feet is approximately 30 cms long and 13 cms wide. These whisky stave pieces have had a hard life holding 30 years of liquid gold and having come to the end of their life, instead of just burning them they are now transformed into a table top holder. What you put in them is up to you, nuts, sweets, mince meat pies, keys (for those old enough to remember those kinds of parties) etc.
If you would like a unique hand made piece to display or hold anything similar feel free to drop me a line re price and delivery.

Hope you all have a great Christmas and thanks for looking.

With Christmas fast approaching I always try to think of making something different, but in the usual Caskart style. for a "gift with a difference" idea. Using a couple of solid oak whisky barrel staves for the body and an old barrel lid to make the solid base, a fruit bowl was born. Of course, this could be a bread holder, sweetie holder or similar but as usual unique in that being hand made and designed as I went along there can be similar but not identical pieces. If you fancy one, as usual, get in touch.

Christmas Ideas for those that might be stuck
Cant think what to get him / her / them / it, then maybe these might just fit the bill.
As usual everything is made from whisky cask staves and barrel lids so don’t let the kids chew them.
1. The naughts and crosses game is made from a barrel lid and the pieces from whisky cask bungs. The board measures 17cm square by 2 cms thick. For sale for £20.
2. The farm gates are the same but slightly different in design due to the pieces of wood used for the bases. Both gates are 20cms long by 11 cms high and with the fitted back stop can be used to store your tablet (electronic not sweeties), your mobile or letters and cards. For sale for £35 each.
3. The Christmas tree is made from whisky staves and the base from a barrel lid. Measuring 73cms high and 36 cms wide at the bottom this is a solid lump of oak on which you can hang baubles (as the photo shows) and / or lights or candy canes or chocolate coins etc etc. There are 10 wooden k***s that allow you space to just hang anything suitable, it’s up to you. For an idea, it might make a good holder for necklaces or similar, after Xmas. This is for sale for £25 bare or £30 with the baubles as shown.
4. Your opportunity to make your own. I started to make a dog paw rack (photo added for reference) by stripping an old lid, separating the pieces, re gluing them back up and then skimmed the surfaces, as I do for all similar projects. However, I changed my plans and decided I would sell this to someone who might want to try their own design or other use. Both sides have been skimmed and are almost perfectly flat, but they will still need lots and lots of sanding for a finished surface. This wing measures 60cms at its widest by 23cms in the middle and is 2cms thick. The surfaces are untouched and will need varnishing or waxing or whatever your required finish is but it’s a chance to try your hand and do your own thing. For sale for £25.

I have a couple of half lids nearly ready, so if given enough time I could still make a dog paw rack with a name or names on it but xmas is closing in and time is required to make one.

Feel free to look back on all of the Caskart items previously shown here and if something takes your fancy, let me know. Again , time is running out but I will try to supply anything that you like, if I can.

Have a think about it and if you want to see the listed items, drop me a line and you are more than welcome to come have a look.

Sometimes you just get asked to make something different. Cut from a side oak cask lid, it's enough to make you scream.
