Recent Clay Natural Pond Restoration😎

Unlike liners, natural clay ponds let roots spread wild—meaning species like yellow flag iris and cattails(bulrush) can form massive underwater carpets if they aren't kept in check!

We stripped out 6 van loads of suffocating roots and bulrush to protect the clay base and give the pond room to breathe.

We re-established the borders with 7 non-invasive, nutrient-sponging plants:

Spearmint & Water Mint
Purple Loosestrife
Red & Purple Irises
Golden Jenny

These new marginals soak up excess nitrates to keep water clear without aggressively spreading across the bed! 🌟

tonnes of topsoil out. And a fresh new look in.✨

Here at IOW Aquatic Services, we also undertake landscaping! For this job, we dug up, skipped, and removed 4 tonnes of topsoil before laying w**d membrane, setting terracotta rope edging in fresh mortar, and finishing with a gravel/bark geometric Victorian layout.

We had our good friend Walkers Landscape Gardening and Aquatics working with us on this one😎

This one definitely needed a clean out!

Another pond restoration wrapped up in Bembridge! 🌊

This concrete pond had over 8 inches of heavy, thick silt at the bottom.

​We drained it, shovelled out all the silt, and deep-cleaned the concrete structure and surrounding stonework. To keep the pond's ecosystem safe and balanced, we saved and pumped back in most of the existing good water before getting the filtration system running smoothly. The fish are back in and loving the clean space! 👌

At least the Koi have somewhere to swim now! 😎

🌍 Investing in nature, one pond at a time.

Natural clay ponds have their charm, but prolonged summer droughts mean they often empty when wildlife needs them most. This particular pond was drying up yearly, leaving the local ducks without a home.
We’ve officially changed that! This newly lined and finished pond will now provide a permanent, reliable sanctuary for ducks, insects, and local wildlife all year round.

🌱 What’s next? We’ll be returning soon to introduce a variety of aquatic plants to finish off the ecosystem, but the hard part is done and the results speak for themselves.
