Craft Bandicoot

Craft Bandicoot Bus driver by day, shed enthusiast by night!

Started as a hobby, I spend my free time in the shed making things from wood (often reclaimed) and occasionally bringing life back to items like table lamps and garden benches!

Now, I know it's been a while (longer than I thought, right enough!) but I've been lucky enough to enjoy selling a flat, surgery and 3 broken ribs amongst others since my last post 😂

I never thought I'd reach a point in my life when I could say I was experimenting with a laser. Unsupervised. I'm thoroughly enjoying my mid life crisis!
Testing different settings on ceramic tiles tonight, with a few follow on ideas on the cards!

Some of you may remember an engineers lamp that I refurbed a couple of years ago. Turns out, I had all the parts for its twin! The previous lamp was eventually painted black almost entirely, whereas with this one, I decided to simply clean up the metal work and leave a more rustic look. The only 'new' parts are the wiring, bulb socket and bulb. The lamps were made by an English company called Mek Elek, who were around between 1931 and 1974.

My first full play with our laser engraver. A Haida raven (coincidentally the same one as my tattoo) on bamboo. This video is around 3 and a half hours condensed into a minute and a half. If you're curious about the music, the track is called Drip Neon by Miaoux Miaoux.

New name, Who's this? The artist formerly known as Kessock Kreations shall henceforth be known as Craft Bandicoot. However, don't forget the name Kessock Kreations... Exciting new things coming!

Recent finished project! Friend asked if I could make a 'rustic' garden unit for their pizza oven. 95% made from fencing materials which means they are pre-treated and suitable for outside, and will gain a bit of character over time 👍 it was also the first time I've managed to do a slate etching! I am particularly chuffed with the cupboard and silver birch handle - first time I've used my lathe in months!

The first 3 images show some of the hurdles I've had to navigate. My drill chuck packed in, and required a grinder to remove it. Bad weather decided to assault the shed roof which then needed temporary repairs which have now been more permanently dealt with. The last picture, however, is a good one - my new pull saw. Looking forward to using this on whatever nonsense my brain kicks up in the near future!

Nothing says 'Happy 30th birthday' to a friend than her very own coffin! I should add, she did request this! I was absolutely delighted with the finished look of this - the pallet wood gave it some really nice character! The hinges and handle were from an old wood store I built years ago. The final picture shows the only casualty from this build!

This was a very satisfying project to work through and complete. A 60th birthday present for the father-in-law! All put together from scratch with birch and cherry - particularly challenging as none of it was straight, so measuring was out the window (who needs to measure things, anyway?). In the end, it was all pretty much level and secure, which I reckon is a result!

How's this for a starter? Very much a one off! A miniature halberd for my brother's birthday. An old axe head, some scrap from a skip and a birch handle. For those wondering, the runes roughly spell 'Jibbers Crabst'. Obviously. The last picture shows that I am not always an intelligent man...
