In the News: Rare Rowntree's chocolate box to go up for auction

A solid silver chocolate box is expected to fetch up to £1,000 when it goes up for auction in Scarborough.

Made for the coronation of King Edward VII in 1902, the 125-year-old box originally contained just a single bar of Rowntree's chocolate.

Auctioneers David Duggleby believe it to be only the second of its kind to be seen in a sale this century.

🍫 Since launching our limited-edition Maldon Snacking Bars, we’re starting to turn our attention to what flavours are coming next…

😀 And now it’s time to let YOU decide! We’ll be rolling out a new bar soon, one that YOU can invent and even name!!!!

🍫 Our current snacking bars are made up of four chunky blocks of fruit chocolate (orange, lemon & strawberry) on a dark chocolate base. And now, we want to hear about your dream combinations, such as:

🎉 One Year of Sweet Memories in Hunstanton!

🥳 Although we've been in business since 2015 when we opened our very first store in Maldon, today we're celebrating one entire year since we began an exciting new chapter in Hunstanton.

🍫 What an incredible journey it's been. We'd like to say a huge thank you to all our wonderful customers, local supporters and visitors who've stopped by to enjoy our handmade chocolates, gifts and treats over the past year. Your support has meant the world to us.

❤️ From our very first day at 10 Greevegate to welcoming so many familiar faces (and plenty of new ones!), it's been a pleasure to be part of the Hunstanton community. We can't wait to continue creating delicious chocolates and making even more sweet memories together.

In the news: Lindt's Easter chocolate sales fall after price hike

Lindt has partially U-turned on its decision to hike prices after Easter chocolate sales dropped.

The Swiss chocolate maker said a "necessary groupwide" price surge of 11.8% was one of the reasons revenue shrank in the first half of this year, particularly in the UK, Germany, and Switzerland.

It also blamed weaker Easter demand and a drop in tourism from Asia and the Middle East "due to geopolitical uncertainties". In response, it said it has adjusted prices and boosted marketing in certain regions for the second half of the year.

Amazon floodplains cocoa offers a climate-resilient and sustainable chocolate

Protected and irrigated by the forest canopy of the floodplains, Elene’s cocoa is more resistant to pests like vassoura de bruxa, a fungus that devastated Brazilian crops in the 1980s, as well as climate change impacts like droughts and heavy rains.

It also offers a diverse range of earthy, fruity and acidic flavors, which Elene has utilized to produce an expanding range of artisanal cocoa and chocolate products. Caramelized cocoa nibs are her best seller, she said, and she also produces artisanal chocolate bars, creams and other sweet spreads, cocoa powders and oils.
