Another one complete. Rebuilt BNSF SD70MAC - a compete stripdown and repaint of the Athearn HO model. Weathering is restrained as per the proto photos followed including the heat / rust damage on the upper part of the long hood.

The designers of what became the Sherman Firefly had a problem. The High Explosive round fired by the 17 pounder was less effective than the 75mm it was to replace. This picture shows their first solution, developed by the Armament Provision Replacement Inspectorate (APRI) at Lulworth. Inspiration for the two-gunned approach (shown in this photograph) came from the earlier M3 Medium tank, and in fact the original proposal was named ‘Significantly Improved (SI) Lee’.
