On Saturday we buried yet another of James Doran's great great gandson, Joseph Dodd's great grandsons and Sydney William's grandsons. At the funeral were many of the next generation of this wonderful family who treasure the memories of time gone by and look forward to seeing the next generation growing up. Watching the youngest member of the family pushing her toy tractor through the crowds of people after the service was a great reminder that familys carry on but we must not forget the past, its what makes us what we are today.

It's wonderful news that the book, 'A Horse, A Sword and A Rifle' has 'gone global'. I've had enquires from South Africa about its availability. Many people who are members of the Witley Court page have already read the book due to its links with Lord Dudley and his time there and in the Boer War.

My next book 'The Life in Letters of Captain James Doran' is now availale on Amazon. What an amazing life James had leaving home at 15 to sail all around the world up to his death at sea off Java in 1878. During his time at sea he shot men in San Francisco who tried to board the ship to cause a mutiny and he treated sick Arab sailors in the far east while carrying staple goods such as coal, guano and timber all around the worl. He also had three wives and reared six children. He lost two wives and a son to TB which was rife at that time. This book is a great read especially for those of you who are interested in the sea.
