Have you ever watched a professional piano player walk on to the stage to sit at the piano - one which they would have sat at during rehearsals and yet the pianist moves the piano stool, pushing it away or bringing it closer, then adjusting the height of the piano stool as if it is the first time they have sat at the piano . Why does the pianist do this? adjusting the stool gives themselves the most comfortable position at the piano. Not all pianos are built the same, whilst cosmetically they may look similar. We always recommend choosing a piano with a solid spruce soundboard, because solid wood is cut from a single piece of timber, the grain runs continuously. This allows sound waves to travel smoothly and efficiently, resulting in better sustain and complex harmonics.
Laminated soundboards restrict the wood's natural ability to flex and vibrate. This dampens volume and produces a flatter, less vibrant sound.
