☀️ Warm Weather Warning for Koi Keepers ☀️

As water temperatures rise, oxygen levels in your pond naturally begin to fall — and that can quickly become dangerous for your koi.

Many hobbyists focus on feeding more during warm weather, but forget that warmer water holds less dissolved oxygen while at the same time koi, filters and bacteria all demand more of it.

Signs your pond may be struggling with oxygen:
🔹 Koi hanging near waterfalls or returns
🔹 Fish gasping at the surface
🔹 Lethargic behaviour
🔹 Reduced appetite
🔹 Increased stress and flashing

Things to consider during hotter periods:
✅ Increase aeration with air pumps and air stones
✅ Clean mechanical filtration regularly
✅ Ensure strong surface agitation
✅ Monitor stocking levels carefully
✅ Reduce feeding during extreme heat
✅ Keep an eye on water quality and ammonia

Remember — oxygen isn’t just for the koi. Your biological filter also depends on it to process waste effectively. Poor oxygen levels can quickly lead to water quality crashes.

In many cases, extra aeration is one of the best investments you can make in a koi pond.

Your koi can survive poor food for a while…
