Last year we sat down for a chat with Will Cohen, Supervising Sound Designer and co-founder of String and Tins.

A multi-award winning team of sound designers, composers and mix engineers, String and Tins have collaborated with brands like Adidas and Audi, provided sound design for the BBC’s adaptation of Kensuke’s Kingdom, as well as turned their hand to immersive content, including Audible’s Full-Cast audio editions of the Harry Potter series.

Inside the Studio that brings you Strictly 🪩

Strictly Come Dancing has been a mainstay of British Saturday night television for over twenty years. Broadcast live every Saturday night from late-September to December, the production behind Strictly is both high-stakes and extremely complex.

Part of this complex workflow are the many stings, sound effects and music beds that bring the show to life.

In charge of this task is Grams Operator and Technical Specialist Nancy Wright, who works as part of the wider team at BBC Studioworks, who operate and maintain some of the UK’s leading television studios, including London's iconic Televison Centre.

We sat down with Nancy to find out what a Gram Op does and how the Calrec Audio Type R has improved her audio workflow on high stakes shows like Strictly.
