To celebrate, we caught up with Dean Clough-based illustrator Chris Mould, whose artwork has helped bring classic stories to life for new generations of readers.
Chris is known for illustrating recent editions of The Iron Man and War of the Worlds, alongside many much-loved children's books.
We asked Chris a few questions about books, imagination and illustration.

C: My favourite book was something called The Tyger Voyage by Richard Adams who wrote Watership Down. A beautifully illustrated picture book with artwork by Nicola Bayley.

C: Well, Iโd love to step through the wardrobe into Narnia. Iโve always tried it and itโs never worked yet, so it would be good if we could make it happen.

C: My advice to young artists and illustrators is know your subject. Look at lots of other different ways of working. Research different styles and artists. If you want to illustrate books, find out whatโs selling and whatโs doing well and what children like reading. Talk to booksellers. Find out what the market is doing. Even look at whatโs selling in other parts of the world because it will always have impact on publishers here.
