An unexpected plant rescue haul 🌿

These beauties (and more) were thrown away by someone my mum knows because of fungus gnats (yes with pots)… so of course she rescued them and shared some with me 🥹

Fungus gnats live in the soil, so I’ve removed all the old compost, washed the roots, cleaned the pots properly, and treated everything with neem oil (found a few mealybugs hiding too 👀).

I’d really love your advice on any of these, if you grow them, what tips or tricks have worked best for you? 🌱

I’ve rescued:
🌿 Asparagus fern
🌿 Snake plant
🌿 Pilea peperomioides
🌿 Gasteraloe (Gasteria × Aloe hybrid)
🌿 Sempervivum arachnoideum ‘Cobweb Houseleek’
🌿 Guzmania bromeliad
🌿 Flaming Sword bromeliad
🌿 Aichryson laxum ‘Tree of Love’
🌿 Rhipsalis pilocarpa ‘Hairy stemmed cactus’

Let’s rescue them properly together ❤️‍🩹

🌿 HOW TALL WILL IT GROW? 🌿

My Gasteria flower stalk has shot up from 5cm to 24cm in just two weeks 😳

So… how tall do you think it’ll get? Gasteria flower stalks can sometimes grow up to 1 metre or more 😳

🌸 Guess correctly (or closest!) and win one of her adorable pups 💚

Swipe for a little Monkey Tail Cactus update 🌵
Both mum and cuttings are firm, healthy, and a good green beneath the hairs. Everyone is settling in well with their prickly pear companions, and the cinnamon on the cuts is helping keep fungus away.

Slow and steady progress, exactly what this recovery needed 💚
You can check my November posts for the start of the journey if you missed it!

Spider plants usually hate terrariums… yet this one is absolutely thriving 🤯🌿
Roots are happy, growth is wild, and the babies keep coming.

What seems to be working:
🌱 Excellent drainage – deep substrate layers so roots never sit soggy
🌬️ Air flow – this terrarium isn’t sealed, so moisture can escape
✂️ Regular grooming – older leaves and excess growth are trimmed to prevent rot and crowding
💡Bright, indirect light – enough energy without cooking the leaves

Chop & prop, or let her run free?
