Hello to all our followers – we are sorry to have been a bit quiet of recent – things have been very busy with makings in the workshop and we are preparing for our upcoming events in the summer – more information about those in a future post!
We are asking for your help today for Mike, who many of you will know from his biog on our webiste.
Mike is not only the supplier of most of the wood from which our flutes are created, but also is a dear friend and mentor of Louise’s (and was of Phil’s too.)
Mike has spent over 60 years dedicating his life to the sympathetic production of rare English woods, sustainabley harversted from field and woodland which go on to create beautiful artisan pieces in the hands of turners and woodcarvers all over the UK. He is a wonderfully kind hearted man who has mentored many a budding crafts person on their journeys to becoming creative wood artists.
Just a couple of weeks ago Mike suffered the catastrophic loss of his workshop, mill and most of his store of milled wood in an awful fire, which despite the best efforts of Mike and a friend and then seven attending fire engines and their crew, could not be contained in time to save anything. Over sixty years’ worth of painstakingly built up workshop and machines, was reduced to ash in a few short hours and sadly was not covered by his insurance.
We understand that these times are challenging for many of us already but we are asking you all to give what you can (even the smallest donation will help so much) to raise the funds for Mike to begin to rebuild and continue with his life’s work.
Below is the link to the GoFund page where donations can be made and please don’t stop once the target is reached as this does not cover all that has been lost and is the kick start to get the new workshop up out of the ground.
We live in a world where these skills and the people who share them with the next generation, are even more important than before – we need Mike to be able to continue with everything he does!
Please share this with as many friends as you can and remember no donation is too small as all contributions will help. With our huge thanks in advance – all of us at Red Kite Flutes and of course Love, hugs and smiles to you all from Louise
