When Dave had his stroke back in October 2023, we had no idea what "recovery" would actually look like… never mind that a few years on we'd be running a wee craft business together.

GoldsCrafts GoldsCrafts started almost by accident. But it turned into something bigger than tartan thistles and laser-cut plaques.

It gave Dave a reason to get up, a problem to solve, a project to finish whilst also giving him the chance to rest and give his brain a break when needed ( no one mentions the brain fatigue). Turns out designing, measuring, and arguing with a stubborn laser cutter is surprisingly good for a brain that's had to relearn a few things.

It's not therapy. It's not medical. It's just a purpose. And it turns out that matters just as much.

That's part of why Kirsty and I are abseiling from the Forth Road Bridge (165ft) for Different Strokes Charity — because recovery isn't only about the physical stuff, it's about having something to hold onto afterwards too.

Yesterday we were at WoodFest 26 and if anyone knows myself and Lucy love to have a nose around before the events start.

Our usual go to is hopscotch

But for this event we went slightly rogue and had to try out the crazy golf.

Jessica also joined in with this mad moment 😍

We actually had so many visitors to the stall, Kirsty, Leanne and the kids all came, you know me they mean the world to me and to have their support at these things is always amazing.

Friends who we hadn't seen in years dropped by for a catch up.

Repeat customers came back and honestly it is so nice to have people making a point of popping by to say hi at these events.

Then we had a special visitor to the stall

Page the fantastic 11year old German shepherd decided our area was as good as any to come for a lie down.

The plaque measures 25cm round and accommodate up to 8 names (1 name per heart)

Hearts available in plain wood or red

Please specify the heart colour and the names for each heart at the time of purchase

If you don't provide names 4 plain hearts and 4 red hearts will be sent in a bag, which can be personalised and glued onto the tree by the buyer

🌹 Stuart & Louise's Big Day - A Last Minute GoldsCrafts Save! 🌹

A couple of weeks back Dave's sister Louise tied the knot with Stuart. Straight after saying "I do" they jetted off to Salou, kilt and wedding dress in tow, for some stunning photos in the sun - talk about doing it in style! ☀️

Then last weekend was the cracking after-wedding party back home to celebrate properly.

We got the hall sorted, balloons up, tables dressed... then it hit us - the cake had nothing on it! Pure panic stations 😅

But this is where the magic happened. Louise's mum Gillian rolled up her sleeves and got to work on the most stunning floral display, while Dave wasn't far behind her crafting the cake topper - Stuart & Louise's names and their date, 21st July 2026. Between the two of them, they pulled together something gorgeous, wrapped it up with a wee bit of tartan ribbon, and honestly? Tada moment doesn't even cover it. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

The cake didn't last long (as they never do!) but Dave wanted the couple to have something that would - so he built them a beautiful keepsake box using the same flowers, finished with their names and date, so they've got a lasting piece to look back on for years to come.

Nothing beats a bit of last-minute crafting when the pressure's on! Huge congratulations to Stuart & Louise 🥂
