Things we’d tell you if we owned a shop… 👀

Buying stock must be one of the only jobs where you have to constantly remind yourself that you are not the customer 😂

It’s so easy to see something, love it and immediately think “I need this in the shop.”

But the better questions might be…

🌟Who is this actually for?
🌟Can I picture one of my customers buying it?
🌟Where would it sit in the shop?
🌟And is it earning its shelf space?

Sometimes the things you’d never take home yourself end up being the things your customers absolutely LOVE.

Every January, before the show opens, a panel of expert retailers get a first look at hundreds of brand new products entered into our Best Product Awards.

Then comes the difficult part... deciding who deserves Gold, Silver and Bronze. 🥇🥈🥉

We're now looking for retailers from across Scotland to join our judging panel and sponsors, The Home and Gift Association , at Scotland's Trade Fair Spring and Speciality Food & Drink Show 2027.

We're keen to hear from buyers representing:

Retailers, we’d genuinely love your input on this one.

Taking a day out of the business isn’t always easy — especially when there’s a shop to run, staff to organise and approximately 847 other things needing your attention.

So what makes a buying trip genuinely worth it?

Is it discovering something you wouldn’t have found otherwise? Having proper conversations with suppliers? Getting everything done in one day? Coming home feeling inspired? Or something completely different?

🐝 Jak was as cool as can bee, while Stacey wasn’t quite ready to become the bees’ new bestie!

A few swats, a couple of quick escapes…she found the courage to stand next to the hive eventually 🤣👏🏻

Huge thanks to our Directors Mark & Becky for letting us be part of the swarm. Safe to say we have a newfound appreciation of these tiny but mighty pollinators.
