Have you heard me speaking about Gorgets? I absolutely love wearing them!

This is Celestial Paisley, my daughter Susan’s latest handmade piece — and it’s a gorget.

She designs most of the jewellery for my videos.

Gorgets have a fascinating history. Originally they were pieces of armour worn around the throat and upper chest, but over the centuries the distinctive shape became increasingly decorative and ornamental. Today, the gorget shape makes a wonderful statement necklace — although thankfully Susan’s one is considerably lighter than a suit of armour! 😊

She made this one from polymer clay, building up lots of paisley and floral texture and adding antique gold with flashes of pink, purple, turquoise and blue. It’s finished with a dramatic black edge, with a black stainless-steel chain and findings.

The gorget itself measures approximately 14 cm across, with a 38 cm chain, and you’ll find my Shorelight Studio maker’s marks on the reverse.

Made by hand, right next door to me, here in Pitullie, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.

A little nod to the past, given a much more colourful 21st-century makeover. 💜💙💚
