In my June Substack, The Midsummer Woods you can read an update from the Forest, a beautiful story inspired by Litha, seasonal notes by the wonderful .tom and 3 midsummer inspired crafts like this one! 🌼

Turmeric sun prints inspired by the warmth and power of the midsummer sun. 🌞

We painted turmeric onto paper, gathered leaves and flowers from the garden, and left everything out in the sunlight to slowly transform through the day. It really did feel a little like magic watching the prints appear!

A simple summer craft using sunlight, plants and a few things from the kitchen cupboard. Find the full tutorial on Substack, link in bio. Have fun! 🌼✨

We’ve really enjoyed trying this new soap making kit from Creativ Company!🌸✨

A simple hands-on project that turns a few ingredients into something genuinely useful. Melt, pour, set… then a few hours later you have your own exfoliating soaps ready for the bathroom, sink or travel bag. Exciting!

We loved that the whole process felt creative and practical too. A lovely activity for older children and teens who enjoy making things and learning how everyday objects are created. And it would make for a thoughtful handmade gift idea for Father’s Day which is around the corner.

A calm afternoon project with something useful at the end of it, always our favourite kind of craft!

I didn’t learn to read until I was 12, a journal snippet. 📕❤️

At the time it felt like I was behind, it was as if everyone else had understood something I hadn’t. Looking back now, I don’t think I was failing.

I simply needed more time.

Less pressure, less comparison and less fear of falling behind. Slowly, it came! And now reading is one of the things I love most. 📕✨

My journey has changed the way I think about children and how they learn. I believe that growth doesn’t always happen on a schedule, and learning doesn’t look the same for every child.

Some children bloom early! And others, well they can quietly gather things beneath the surface for years before it clicks ~ and all is ok!

I feel many children carry far more than we realise when they begin to feel “behind” and sometimes what they need most is time, confidence, safety, encouragement, and space to arrive there in their own way.

I’d love to know, was there ever something that took you longer to learn, but stayed with you more deeply because of it that journey?

It’s elderflower season and with the trees in the garden in full abundance we don’t have to travel far to meet with these lovely flowers 🌼

For (a smaller batch of) our family Elderflower Cordial Recipe, you will need:

20-30 large elderflower heads
800g caster sugar
2 unwaxed large oranges
3 unwaxed lemons
3 pints of boiling water

🌼 Method:

1. Gently pick your elderflowers. Try not to knock the pollen off them, which adds to the flavour! Give them a little rinse. You will want to use a fork to separate the flowers from the stalks.

2. In a large pan boil the water and add the sugar, gently simmer until it has dissolved.

3. Leave to cool for 15 minutes before adding your orange and lemon slices & give it a good stir 🍊🍋

Now add your elderflowers!

4. Leave for 24 hours. If you have some muslin use it to cover the pan to protect the cordial as it infuses. Stir every few hours.

5. After a full day, pour your cordial through muslin to catch the solids.

6. Bottle and enjoy! 🌿✨

Add to ice cube trays and store in the freezer, or add to sparkling water for elderflower lemonade!

Have you met with the Tomte yet? 💛🌱

This book is a favourite of ours at this time of the year.

Sharing in a beautiful chapter every night starting from June 1st until we reach Midsummer, following the adventures of our dear friends as they celebrate this festival for the first time. There is something very special about the thought of reading this story alongside many other children at the same time. Like we’re all connecting to the magic together! 🌿

‘Will the magic of Midsummer help restore harmony to the forest in time for the party?’ Let’s see 🌼

We’re taking part in which runs from 23rd to 31st May! 🍓🪏✨

It has brought us such joy watching as our daughter potters in the garden and the greenhouse this season, and now she reaps the rewards with her first homegrown strawberries! 🍓❤️

It has been a lovely and well timed invitation as she nears teenage years, there is a special kind of softening in the garden and it’s always nice to slow it down a little.

What’s growing in your garden at the moment? 👩‍🌾🌱🫛

A very special giveaway! 🐴✨

As many of us know, there is something truly special about an Ostheimer piece. The journey they have been on before they reach little hands, the stories they then hold for years to come, passed on through generations.

We are delighted to be giving this one of a kind friend: an Ostheimer Horse with Saddle, a new home! 🤍

Lovingly crafted and hand painted, this particular horse missed her soft white coat along the way. A beautiful little rarity, just as she is.

You can see her here with another horse for comparison, isn’t she lovely? 🐎🍃

To enter: please share with us your favourite Ostheimer piece, perhaps one you played with as a child and that holds a special memory, or a favourite character your own child reaches for, or even a piece on your wish list. We would love to hear the stories that have found their way into your hearts. 💛✨

For a bonus entry, please share this giveaway in your stories (and tag us so we can see)!
Ends midnight on Friday 29th May and the winner announced the following day. Good luck!

A gentle Whitsun craft for the weekend 🕊️🤍

We spent the afternoon making simple clay dove ornaments using air dry clay, cookie cutters, string, beads and a textured stencil but you can use lace and doilies. Anything that gives a pattern when pressed.

Whitsun, also known as Pentecost, is traditionally a celebration of light, peace and new beginnings. The dove is often used as a symbol of hope and the gentle arrival of summer. 🕊️

A simple craft to make over the weekend. You could hang them near a window, on a seasonal branch or give them as little gifts. It’s such a lovely way to celebrate this festival! 🌱🤍

Materials:
– Air dry clay
– Dove cookie cutter
– String beads
– Lace, doilies, or textured silouette for patterns
– Twine or ribbon for hanging

Perhaps one of summer’s loveliest gifts is the rose 🌸

It’s such a lovely time of the year when they arrive. This week, a small pair of hands gathered and filled a basket with beautifully scented rose petals, leaving half the flower on the bush for the bees 🌸🐝

Before long we reached for one of our favourite nature inspired brands , and made our very own perfume! 🌼

This kit has everything you need to make and savour these lovely summer scents and it is great for little ones wanting to explore the world of natural perfume!

As a special treat, you can buy one Make Your Own Perfume Kit and get a second half price. Simply add both to your basket and the discount will be automatically applied. While stocks last. Happy making! 🌿✨

Sharing this meaningful conversation feels something very lovely, we hope you enjoy it as much as we do. A very special thanks to Laura for your time! 🤍

We recently conversed with Laura, getting to know her story and speaking about the beauty of open-ended play and creating with care.

There was something deeply refreshing in hearing Laura’s reflections on play, balancing business and family life and the belief that children need far less than the world often tells us.

You can read the full interview over on our blog, link in bio! 🌿
