Introducing a new series by Oliver Makeham, to our Close to Home exhibition. Oliver explores his connection to Falmouth, grounded in traditional painting techniques Oliver captures that wonderful familiarity, the incredible light and those quiet moments we get walking round our home town.

Many of the scenes in this collection feel so familiar, to us, and I’m sure to you too. They’re places we’ve explored, paused to admire, or simply passed by. That’s what makes the Close to Home collection so special, art that connects us.

What a delightful week we’ve had at the gallery celebrating the launch of Jon Doran’s latest collection of oil paintings. Our walls are brimming with life with scenes capturing the beauty and tranquility of the Cornish coast — from nearby Pendennis Point, Flushing, and the Helford to Porthtowan and Polzeath on the North Coast.

Unsurprisingly, this collection has been met with remarkable enthusiasm, with several pieces finding new homes within the first few days of the launch - we are thrilled for Jon and we hope you enjoy browsing this new collection!

*Bumpdate from the Director

Whilst preparing for our 35th anniversary celebrations, I have been creating something of my own. My partner Dan and I will be welcoming our first baby in June this year!

So, you will be seeing a lot less of me in the second half of the year as I leave the day to day running of the gallery in the very capable hands of Luke and rest of the team. Thank you to everyone who has sent good wishes and support so far, I feel very lucky indeed.

A beautiful collection of sea shell charms by local jeweller Emily Nott-Bower glisten in the afternoon light. The gold natural forms perfectly accent our current collections. Plus, ceramics now in stock by Steve Smith. These hand-thrown works of porcelain have a clear glossy interior glaze with an exterior that is sanded back resulting in a silky smooth finish.

Introducing our latest exhibition ’Shifting Light’ by Mike Hindle.

Mike studied Fine Art at West Surrey College of Art and Design. Having exhibited work regularly and becoming a full time painter since moving down to Cornwall in 1992, Mike’s work is inspired by the rugged Cornish coastline. Walking holidays in the Lake District when he was young inspired his love for the beauty and majesty of the wild landscape.

Richard is known for his diverse range of painting skills, and this collection is no different. Blurring the line between abstract and realism, Richard’s gouache paintings encapsulate a certain essence of place whilst also transporting the viewer into a fantasy-like realm of tranquillity and simplicity.
