Hi all,

There are times when a customer’s order presents us with a mystery, in this case, it was the mystery of the missing Snake Charmer.

The order comes in and one of the items asked for is the Snake Charmer. There is not one in stock,so we check the mould catalogue to see which mould(s) hold the figure but when go to get from the rack we discover it is one of the Dorset moulds that have gone missing over the years.

Just in case we check 100 moulds either side of the one that is missing to no avail. Lots of swearing going on at this point!🤬

Just when all Hope seems lost we find a photograph of said Snake Charmer buried in the archives. The Snake Charmer is not a single figure per set but an amalgam of an Indian squatting and arms from the Band of Angels. The snake is rising out of a Britains plant tub. We also check in with Giles Brown to seek his wise guidance.

The required body, arms and plant pot are found and cast. I then get to make my first green stuff snake.

Hey presto, the Snake Charmer is recreated and one is on his way to the customer and I made another green stuff snake to go in a future mould.

Hi all,

We are pleased to announce that the website is available again. Huzzah.

We have focussed on making the Dorset Model Soldier Company ranges available first as they represent the largest proportion of our business. The Little Wars Revisited ranges are also available because I have a soft spot for them.

Our pricing for these ranges has been reviewed taking in to account current costs etc and there are changes with increases and some decreases across the ranges.

The other ranges – All the Queen’s Men (AQM), Eastpoint Miniatures, GNM Miniatures and 1897 Miniatures will be made available over time. The AQM catalogue is available on the website.

Customers who are interested in purchasing figures from these ranges should contact us directly.

Our next task is to begin increasing the number of product photographs on the website. We have some ready to load but this will be an ongoing process for quite a while.

Thanks to you all for your continuing support

Antony and Anita

Hi all,

It’s chaos here at HQ, we have joiners, roofers and decorators doing a number of jobs all over the house!

Thought I would share a couple of projects I have been working on between casting and painting.

We have a customer who travel to lots of countries and on his return likes to have toy soldiers for that country. His latest trip was to Greece, so we cast some Evzone for him but he wanted a standard bearer as part of the group. We don’t do one, so had to do a little conversion work.

The other project is mine. One of the advantages of owning a toy soldier business is being able to scratch a ‘wargaming itch’. I have been reading the One Hour Skirmish wargame rules by John Lambshead and fancied giving them a go. Instead of being sensible and using any of the figures I have in my cabinet I decided that I wanted the Foreign Legion to face off against the Arabs. Some casting and conversion work done and I have a small FFL skirmish force on the painting table.

Hi all,

Hope you are well?

I wanted to let you know that I am hosting a 54mm wargaming weekend, Battles in the Borders, on 26/27 September 2026 at the Ayton Community Hall in my village in the Scottish Borders.

The plan is to play a large scale ‘Invasion of Britain’ type game on the Saturday on a 24’ x 6’ table. This will be a continuation of a narrative from previous wargaming weekends.

On the Sunday there will be a number of games that people can play either bringing their own figures or using those that other players are bringing. This is an opportunity to try new rules and different periods.

A link to the post about the event on the Little Wars Revisited Forum - https://littlewarsrevisited.boards.net/post/10087

We have a number of players already signed up. If you are interested in attending please PM me.

All the best,

Antony

Hi all,

Just finished this repair and repaint commission for a customer. The figures are actually from Ducal but, in their past, the bases have been re-shaped. After stripping off the paint, sorting out new arms and repairs to the colours it was time for painting as a Scots Guards Colour party.

The colours are for the 1st and 3rd battalions.

This was one of those projects where the ‘mojo’ was not there at times but got there in the end and the customer is very happy with the result.

Hi all,

We have a customer, who like me, has a great fondness for the John Ford film ‘She Wore A Yellow Ribbon’. Last year we painted the Olivia Dandridge character for his collection.

This year he asked us to provide him with Abby Allshard, the wife of Major Allshard. Her nickname given by the troopers at the fort is ‘Old Iron Pants’.

Using the Daughter of the Regiment figure from our AQM ranges; I changed the hair and the hat on the figure, sculpted gauntlets using solder and then sculpted a head scarf. I think she turned out ok.

Hi all,

An interesting piece of work for a customer who is putting together the band of the Polish Border Guard; the Drum Major does not carry a mace but carries a Carpathian Axe to direct the band.

I said I would have a go at making one to go with the order.

The bits of the left were used to make the axe on the right. The Drum major with the axe in hand.

Hoping to see some photos of the band when they are painted.

Hi all,

January Plans

The last week started with us updating our accounts and working on the Dorset Model Soldier catalogue cleaning up the listings, adding some new items and reviewing the pricing of figures.

Our main objective this month, after failing miserably in September, is to work on the website to make it available again.

We will be adding photos where we can but with 4000+ items it will take forever to photograph everything. So photos on the website will be an ongoing activity.

Any casting orders we receive will be cast at the beginning of February.

Battles in the Borders

I am hoping to run a 54mm weekend at our village hall (Ayton Community Hall in Berwickshire) in late September/early October. The idea is to have a big battle on the Saturday with the British Army fighting the armies of the Posnan Pact (Prussia, France and Russia) and smaller games on the Sunday for those who want to.

Please get in touch if you may be interested in attending.

All the best,

Antony
