What is this Shopify scam we’re experiencing? Several orders flagged as High Risk - always for the same low value product, always to a male name, always from the US. Shopify says there’s a high chance of a chargeback, so we are cancelling the orders. But if we didn’t cancel it - if we sent them the card - what’s in it for the scammer other than a low-priced greeting card?
Des anyone have any insight?

It’s been nearly a decade since we launched our Emergency Dad Jokes mug, which means it’s been about 9.5 years since we started messaging sellers on Etsy, Amazon, Ebay and more to ask them to remove their copies. And it’s been over five years since we took out the trademark to make it easier to have them taken down (in theory).

It never fails to make us sad and angry when we see people blatantly ripping off our original idea.
Excuses we’ve heard are:
I thought it was ok because I saw it on Pinterest
But someone sold me the template on Etsy
You can’t own that
There are loads on the internet, so I thought it was ok
My friend made it for me

There’s just no excuse, but there’s also no getting through to most of these people.

Like people who shop on Temu or Shein, or who support Trump, you can’t make them care about morals. Anyone who thinks it’s ok to just rip stuff off, won’t understand why they were wrong to do it.

Despite all this, the sales keep rolling in for this silly little mug (14,000 and counting) after a decade of making dads chuckle and kids groan.
