The December light is pretty magical. Image of a favourite tree that I love to admire on a routine walk round my village.
Posting here so I can admire at leisure. Perhaps it’s time to post again with freedom - I got so lost in algorithm chasing in years gone by. Maybe in 2026 I’ll be ready to share things that bring me joy, provoke my thoughts and feel like they should be shared with this little corner of the world

The finished reticulated ribbon reticule 💕 I’m very proud of this collaboration. It marks the beginning of me claiming my name as an artist and continuing my path of working with textiles that are classed as waste.

Squeeeee. So pleased these can be shared now as I’ve been working on them for a while…. Beautiful silk reticule bags made with “waste” ribbons (I say waste with quotes because it’s the most beautiful waste I’ve ever worked with) there are only 6 in the world and you can only acquire one through Papilionaceous

Reticulated ribbons

With just seven days (including today!) until the Fayre at Jane Austen Festival, Bath, UK I guess we should stop thinking of this as 'product development' and start thinking of it as product

It has been an absolute pleasure to finally collaborate on a project with Jessica Geach (aka Ruby Cubes)

Jess has ten years experience as a textile artist and has progressively worked towards a zero waste philosophy. This has lead to, for example, working with National Theatre costume to re-purpose their fabrics

As anyone who has visited the Papilionaceous workshop will know, we don't like to throw stuff away

There really is no 'away'; or rather 'away' just means somewhere else that isn't here, or potentially incinerated

So once we have woven something we would rather it got used; some things just take longer to find their purpose than others

So what you see here is an accumulation of pieces of ribbon that didn't get used for the purpose for which they were originally woven; not the right length, weaving flaws, samples, all those sorts of things

Jess has first twisted them into rope and then stitched them into fabulous forms

We are now in the process of adding finishing touches: cords and tassels, which we are making from silk rescued from a passementerie mill that recently closed

Upcycled, recycled, repurposed, zero-waste, all good

And realistically, although we are out of the product development stage, work in progress is still probably fair

Until the Fayre!

Come on an evening stroll with me: swipe right to enjoy views from my wanderings up to the allotment last night and whilst you soak it in, let me tell you about some changes:

I’m changing the way I work in the studio and dropping a lot of the more commercial work. This is to free up my studio time for projects where I can work with textile waste.

Textile pollution is a massive problem in the world and after a lot of soul searching I realise I want my own artistic practice to focus on problem solving & collaboration.

You may have noticed that I haven’t generated a bunch of new designs this year, in the way I normally would. This started as burn out and then became a whole shift for me in making decisions about my future as an artist.

I’ll do a post another time about burnout, but for now let me tell you what I’m looking forward to:

Focussing on teaching - with workshops and kits at the forefront I am proud to be at a stage in my career where I can share my skills with you

Enjoying experimentation - I’m playing again! This is a truly joyful thing. Setting aside time to genuinely mess around with textiles and not feel that everything I make needs to make bank.

Collaborating - working on projects with other artists and businesses to use up their textile waste. To be honest this is what brought me up short and made me look at my own practice and I’m so glad it did. I’m so looking forward to more of it.

Claiming my name - later in the year I’ll be rebranding to my own name so expect to see changes there. This is important first me in my own journey to be able to put my name on my work.

If you read this far then wow! Thank you for supporting me and I hope you will stick around for the next chapter ☀️🤩🌟

I had the most wonderful weekend working with the most amazing ladies of our collective at

I launched a new workshop and we helped lots of people mend their garments. We held a discussion panel about our mission to mend. So many wonderful conversations took place and the whole weekend felt like a wonderful ray of light. With thanks to my fellow collective members - I’m already looking forward to the next one 🌟🌟🌟

Well that’s me! What an absolutely superb time I’ve had trading over the last 3 weeks. Tomorrow I’m heading home after the most magical last day in a snow covered I’ve met some incredible fellow artists and made new pals. Enjoyed having lots of lovely interactions with new customers and now I am excited to be going home, seeing my beautiful fam and getting back into the studio ❤️
