If you’ve been around The Natural Beauty Pot for a while, you might remember when our products looked like this… 👀

But I don’t think I’ve ever properly shared why they changed.

About 13 years ago, I was at a meeting with Invest NI. As part of their routine checks when meeting with a prospective client, they looked into my business name at the time - Nature’s Inspiration.

And that’s when I got the news…

The name was trademarked by Procter & Gamble.

They weren’t currently using the name, but I was advised that they had a history of being extremely protective of their intellectual property.

The advice was basically: change it, and change it now, before they notice.

I was absolutely gutted.

I had already spent thousands on the brand - the logo, branding, design work, labels, website, packaging… when you added it all up, it was a lot of money.

And, if I’m being honest, it took me quite a while before I could really talk about it.

At the time, it felt like the years I’d spent building Nature’s Inspiration had been completely wasted.

But looking back now, I can see it very differently.

Changing the name forced me to step back and really think about what I wanted the business to become. It gave me the opportunity to create something that felt much more me and The Natural Beauty Pot was born. 💜

Fast forward all these years and I can honestly say I’m so glad it happened.

Sometimes the things that feel like a disaster at the time end up being the thing that pushes you in a much better direction.

I think The Natural Beauty Pot is a much better fit and yes we have a registered trademark. ☺️

Plastics aren’t just an environmental problem. Researchers are increasingly investigating what happens when these tiny particles enter our bodies. Studies have linked exposure with inflammation, oxidative stress and potential effects on respiratory, digestive and reproductive health, although scientists are still working out exactly how much exposure causes harm.

What to look for
❌“Poly-“ Common examples include Polyethylene, Polybutene, Polyacrylate, and Polyurethane.
❌“-styrene” Indicates synthetic plastic resins like Styrene/Acrylates Copolymer or Ethylene/Propylene/Styrene Copolymer.
❌ “-siloxan” or “-methicone” These are silicones, which are synthetic liquid polymers. Examples include Dimethicone and Cyclopentasiloxane.
❌“Nylon” Often listed with numbers, like Nylon-12 or Nylon-6, used for texture.
❌ “Acrylates” Indicates acrylic plastics like Acrylates Copolymer

If plastic doesn’t biodegrade in the environment where do you think it ends up when it’s in your body?😳

How do you feel about bugs in your lipstick? 🐜💄

Carmine is a red pigment commonly used in lipsticks, lip glosses, blushers, eyeshadows and tinted lip balms. It’s made from the dried bodies of female cochineal insects.

On ingredient labels, look out for:
• Carmine
• CI 75470
• Natural Red 4

Many people are surprised to learn that a “natural” colourant can still be animal-derived, so if you’re looking for vegan cosmetics, this is one ingredient worth checking for.

Did you know that bugs could be used to pigment your cosmetics? Let me know in the comments! 🐞

I’ve been asked to talk about main stream ingredients to avoid so I thought I’d start with lip care ingredients. Have you read your lip balm ingredients list? 👄
