With this week being , we are going to focus on charities that are doing incredible work in helping fight .

Today we are going to focus on the great work of ClientEarth. They work with people around the globe, using the power of the law to create seismic, systemic change that protects life on earth.

They work in a multitude of different ways, from defending wildlife and habitats to promoting environmental justice and protecting forests.

So far they have already achieved so much in positive change:

- They played a key role in designing the world’s first illegal logging law – the EU Timber Regulation - which stops illegal timber being sold the EU.

- They are supporting A Rocha Ghana and other local partners in Ghana to preserve the iconic Atewa Forest, currently threatened by a foreign-owned bauxite mining proposal. A unique biodiversity hotspot, Atewa supports some 100 threatened and endangered species and is the primary water source for almost 5 million people.

This week at , we want to highlight the amazing work our causes are doing in giving .

Today we are showcasing the incredible work Hey Girls are doing in producing environmentally-friendly period products that fund the fight to end period poverty in the UK.
They are an award winning "buy one, donate one" social enterprise, established in 2018.

Plan International UK research found that period poverty affects 1 in 10 people across the UK. In Scotland, the number is thought to be closer to 1 in 4. More research is needed to understand exactly what is happening, but period poverty is definitely a real problem for many people.

Period products are a necessity, but they are expensive. Tight budgets can leave people forced to prioritise other purchases, leaving them without the right period products, without enough period products, or without any period products at all.

Since they started in 2018, they have donated over 18 million environmentally-friendly period products through a network of 150 community partner organisations such as women’s refuges, homeless shelters and food banks.

Hey Girls period products are responsibly sourced and made from sustainable materials, offering the functionality of plastic, without the pollution. With a long-term goal of becoming 100% carbon neutral, they support the Forestry and Landscape Scotland to offset our carbon footprint and donate 10% of all profits to help restore degraded habitats.

They’ve also signed up to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and are one of the UK’s ‘Business Climate Leaders’, pledging to halve our carbon emissions by 2030 and become net-zero by 2050.

This week, we spoke with Rainforest Trust UK about various ways you can help the environment from your own home!

Here's what they had to say:

With everything that is going in world right now, it is important to remember we can all have a positive impact on the environment. Here are six ways you can do something to make a difference just from your home.

1. Buy sustainable food products:
Food production is a major driver in deforestation and loss of wildlife. Agricultural production for meat and dairy not only causes deforestation, but also uses large amounts of energy. Try navigating away from a meat-dominated diet, and buy locally or organically sourced foods. These options are often more sustainably produced and consume less fossil fuels required in transportation.

2. Support eco-friendly companies:
As a consumer, you have the purchasing power to support environmentally-friendly companies that sustainably source their products. Many of these companies use a portion of their proceeds towards environmental action, including supporting Rainforest Trust. Larger companies also pay attention to how consumers spend money, so spending it with the environment in mind is one of the easiest ways to tell big industry to be more environmentally friendly.

3. Donate to the right organisations (if you can):
There are many organisations that are working tirelessly right now to protect our planet. Rainforest Trust’s work to safeguard habitat and species would not be possible without your support. You can help by making a monthly or one-off donation to our Rainforest Climate Action Fund, where we will ensure your donations go to our most high-impact climate projects.

You can find three more of their tips over on our website! You can also support the Rainforest Trust UK by downloading our app and start to use your small change for a big impact 💜 Link in our bio.

As we approach the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26), a vital moment in the fight against climate change, more than ever we need to make sure that we protect our planet’s delicate ecosystems.

As COP26 hopes to achieve, we can do this by reducing our global emissions, protecting our communities and natural habitats, mobilising finance and working together.

Hear from Rainforest Trust UK about their plans to protect the environment and how we can all do our bit to help the environment from home:

Following on the theme of , we wanted to highlight an incredible brand that have an amazing purpose: Wellbeans Coffee.

After having experienced his own personal issues with mental health, Michael Ellis founded Wellbeans due to his passion for promoting positive, healthy living and supporting those who may be experiencing issues with mental health – be it personally, with a member of their family or their friends/colleagues.

Wellbeans is a coffee brand that donate a percentage of the sales straight to SAMH, Scotland’s national mental health charity. With these donations, they have been able to help support various campaigns such as:

- ‘ALBA (Active Living Becomes Achievable)’ - A programme supporting adults who have a mental health problem to increase their levels of physical activity, mental health and wellbeing.

- ‘See Me’ - Scotland’s programme to tackle mental health and discrimination. Addressing the barriers which stigma and discrimination create is central to any action to improve mental health. Doing so creates the best conditions for mental wellbeing, preventative action and early intervention, for personalised support, care and treatment and for recovery.

- ‘The Changing Room’ - A programme designed to support men between the age of 30 and 64. It has one goal – to promote men’s mental health and wellbeing through the power of the beautiful game. It has been running at Hibernian and Hearts Football Clubs since 2017, and has received further funding to allow it to scale up across the country.

Check out their incredible company over on their Instagram at wellbeanscoffee and grab yourself some great coffee whilst doing good at the same time.
