In July, the machair on the Isle of Lewis is bursting with red clover, yarrow, cowslip, orchids and many more wildflowers!

‘Machair’ is a Gaelic word meaning fertile, low-lying grassy plain. It is a rare habitat unique to the north-west coasts of Scotland and Ireland.

Sometimes there’s too much going on to post about important events at the time and Thursday 3 July is very much a case in point. We were delighted to take part in a celebration at Edinburgh Castle to mark the City of Edinburgh's 900th anniversary hosted by the Lord Lyon in the presence of their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla.

It was an honour for us to be included in the 900 years’ celebration and have the opportunity to talk briefly to the monarch about our work promoting Scottish craftsmanship and the wonders of wool.

The Royal Couple were presented with three gifts hand made by artisans we work with in wool and wood: John Isaacs carved a handsome royal spurtle in Scottish Oak based on a carving in Arbroath Abbey, Susan Anderson knitted a beautiful beret in Balmerino™ yarn and Kayleigh from our in-house team made a tweed clutch bag using Harris Tweed® woven by Donald John Mackay.

Knowing the King's role as the patron for we took this unique opportunity to showcase products made with Scottish and British wool, of which we have a growing number as can be seen from our stand. We invited Rachel Crawford from to join us with her Balmerino™lambs, bred for their soft fleece. Of course they stole the show and were much admired by everyone!

The event marked an important day in the short history of the Scottish Textiles Showcase
since we began in 2019 and I am very proud of what we have achieved in the five short years we’ve been operating.
Well done everyone for the excellent team work 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👑👑

Introducing the latest design in the Araminta Campbell tartan range, the Autumn Woodland Walk, woven in an array of colours reflecting the autumn landscape surrounding Araminta’s home in Royal Deeside, Aberdeenshire.

The colours in this limited edition tartan took inspiration from plants harvested from her woodland walks. Araminta has meticulously colour matched each of the yarns in her autumnal tartan to reflect nature’s colour palette.

LESS is most certainly MORE!!!

What an inspiring opening night for the Borders Book Festival as a packed audience listened to the one and only Patrick Grant talk about the background to his latest book LESS. Dressed from head to toe in British made attire, Patrick’s words were music to my ears as he engagingly explained why we should all buy less and even more importantly support our local economy and buy British!! Sponsored by , thank you Dawn and Leah for inviting me and my guest to join you for this very special evening hosted in true Scottish style in the company of and others. What a treat for us all!

Enjoying the wonders of wool 🐏🧶

End of day 1 at yesterday and everyone is delighted after a very busy day in the second year of this hugely popular wool festival. Aptly located in Galashiels, Scottish Borders, once the beating heart of a thriving Scottish wool industry.

The festival runs through to the end of today and no doubt it will be even busier. The fleece market is a major attraction where you can pick up fleeces sources from local farms in the Scottish Borders and learn how to wash and spin your own yarn, keeping it all very local. This is a fantastic initiative led by Lara Armitage who works with local farmers in the Scottish Borders. We hope it spreads to other parts of the country.

Great to catch up with Marguerite at Westfield Croft, Susan and Carol at the Yarn Journal, Samira Hill and hear about exciting new developments from Emma at Creation Mill in Langholm. I definitely need to visit soon!

Do visit the market if you are in the area today ( though check tickets are still available before you go!)

Our pure wool jumpers are produced entirely in the Shetland Isles in the far north of Scotland with local wool, spun and dyed at the iconic Jamieson’s of Shetland mill. Sustainably made with pure wool natural fibres, their biggest journey outside the island was the trip to our Edinburgh store!

The Oatmeal is a marl of natural undyed shades, and the new Pine green shade is inspired by the beautiful greens in the Scottish landscape.

Also available in Lomond blue and Sunrise red.

Our Story

The Scottish Textiles Showcase was founded in 2019 when it opened its first curated shop of Scottish textiles inside the historic Tron Kirk on Edinburgh's Royal Mile. Since then the shop has developed a reputation as a best kept secret and treasure trove for discerning shoppers looking to buy authentic Scottish gifts and homeware.

Scotland's textiles are in a class of their own and have gained a world wide reputation for excellence. From the Scottish Borders in the south to the far flung islands of the Outer Hebrides in the west and Shetland in the north the Scottish textiles story is rich and varied and with beautiful linens and lace besides the celebrated tartans and tweed we all know. As a maker herself founder Director Kitty Bruce-Gardyne has been a long term champion of Scotland's rich textiles heritage and was keen to share her passion for a story which remains physically off the beaten track.

Kitty works with four members of staff at the Showcase and their mission at the shop is to celebrate the Scottish artisans and mills who make the products they sell. She says, "We take great pride in knowing not only where our products have come from but who made them and how. We want to pass this information on to our customers so they too can appreciate the craftsmanship skills required to make the beautiful products on our shelves."
