Manet 🥰

No, that’s not an artist’s signature in the top right corner.

“Bob” is in fact the name of the beloved sitter featured in this Édouard Manet work. Painted around 1876, the beloved “Tête du chien ‘Bob’” features the terrier of the opera singer and art collector Jean-Baptiste Faure.

While Manet would on occasion make portraits of his friends, this picture is one of the few examples of that courtesy being extended to their pets.

The work will head to auction at Christie’s next month as part of the monumental Getty collection and carries an estimate of $400,000-$600,000. Woof!

Balto so deserves to be remembered❤️

This is Balto, a Siberian Husky who was embalmed to become immortal. Balto became famous in 1925 when he ran 1085 kilometers in 7 days. The race against time was to take anti-diphtheria serum to a stricken Alaskan town. Normal post office time would be 25 days.
Balto was the leader of the pack pulling the sleds with his canine comrades in temperatures of 40 degrees below zero.
He is credited with saving the lives of many people, mostly children. ❤

He's not a Collie...but he certainly deserves remembering.
