Was reminded that today is the anniversary of the declaration of Martial Law in the Philippines in 1972. To commemorate 'Ito Ang Diktatura' is currently on sale at Talas Books. Would recommend for fluent Tagalog readers, 10+.

Ito Ang Diktadura, the Tagalog translation of a Spanish picture book by Equipo Plantel and illustrated by Mikel Casal, explains the concept of social injustice and dictatorship to young readers. The book is part of the Aklat ng Salin series translated from the Spanish Libros para Mañana (Books for Tomorrow) first published by La Gaya Cienca in Barcelona in 1978.

When selecting books to add I always just think of what titles I think my 3-year-old will enjoy...and ' picture books NEVER FAIL, I tell you! I end up reading these stories on repeat. MA-ME-MI-MUMU! is a geat introduction to figures exclusive to Philippine folklore, and Ang Pambihirang Sombrero is a super fun book about a girl collecting interesting things from her neighbourhood!
