We’re wrapping up Unco Campfires. We started making thoughtful, careful campfires just before lockdown to try and steer the fire culture on Portobello beach away from pallets and kitchen cabinets and toward smaller, safer, cleaner sustainable campfires.

We’re proud of what we achieved. It totally worked. We’ve sold thousands of campfires across Scotland and it’s quite unusual now to see crappy, dirty fires on Porty beach.

It was a design problem that we feel we’ve solved and after 6 years neither Lewis or I want the long term responsibility of running the business. So we’re winding things up.

The IP, packaging forms and cutting templates mean that anyone who’d like to take it on could do so, with a purchase of a bag of logs and a source of scrap wood. Pretty much. Portobello Campfires can be run from a single garage or shipping container.

It could be a positive, sustainable way to raise funds for a community group? A side hustle or a nice addition to an existing business.
