Today is a big day for so many little people (and their grown-ups) 💛

If you found out your primary school place today, we’re sending you lots of love. We hope you got the school you were hoping for - how exciting for this next chapter! 🎒✨

And if things didn’t go the way you’d planned, please know you’re not alone. It’s okay to feel disappointed, worried or unsure. There are still paths forward, and the right place for your child is out there 💛

Be kind to yourselves today - it’s a big moment, whatever the outcome.

Love,

Easter holidays at Shine Books HQ…

…have involved a lot of time on the road, visiting family and friends across the UK. It’s been lovely, but also a little bit chaotic (as these things always are!).

Between the travel, the noise, the change in routine and trying to keep everyone entertained, it’s a good reminder of just how important those small, calm moments are - for both children and adults.

It’s exactly why we do what we do at Shine Books. Creating stories that help children understand the world around them, and giving families a chance to pause, connect and learn together 💛

However your Easter holidays are looking - busy, quiet or somewhere in between - we hope you’re finding moments that matter.

If you’re looking for something meaningful to share with your child, you can explore our books here:

✨ A lot has been happening behind the scenes at Shine Books…

We’ve been a little quieter on here, but only because we’ve been busy planning, creating and exploring what’s next - and it’s exciting!

👀 We’ve got an event at the end of April that feels like a big step forward for us (we can’t share just yet… but stay tuned!)

We’re also working on new ideas to grow what Shine Books offers - not just books, but practical resources for teachers and families. Think activities, tools and support that can be used in real classrooms to help spark understanding and inclusion 💛

Everything we do comes back to one simple goal:
Helping children understand difference, and helping adults feel more confident having those conversations.

We’re not quite ready to share it all yet… but we’re getting close ✨

An open letter to ✨

At Shine Books, we believe being different is something to be proud of.

Dyslexia brings creativity, resilience and a completely unique way of seeing the world - and that’s something worth celebrating.

Because thinking differently isn’t a limitation… it’s a strength 💛

Today’s episode of the Parent Hell Podcast (with and ) with was one of those stop-what-you’re-doing-and-listen moments.

Hearing such an open and honest conversation about neurodiversity - from Rob Beckett sharing his dyslexia diagnosis, to talking about their children’s experiences - was genuinely brilliant.

What really stood out was how they spoke about it not as a limitation, but as something that shapes who you are… your strengths, your perspective, the way you see the world.

And that’s exactly why these conversations matter.
The more we talk, the more we understand.
The more we understand, the more we remove stigma. 💛

At Shine Books, this is exactly what we’re trying to do - open up these conversations earlier, for younger children.
To help them see, understand and celebrate differences from the very beginning.

So thank you for talking about it so honestly and helping raise awareness in such a real, relatable way. I highly recommend a listen! https://open.spotify.com/episode/0yS51MgcUx1VF1UMqMBESJ?si=e55e403f46cb483f

P.S. We are forever keeping everything crossed that one day our email might get read out for a small business shoutout 🤞😜
(And if it does… can we send you some Shine Books? 👀📚)

🌟 Neurodiversity Celebration Week

Did you know is dyslexic?

Many incredible people think and learn differently - and that difference can bring creativity, determination and fresh ways of seeing the world.

In Shine Books, Dylan the Dog helps children understand dyslexia and reminds us that everyone learns in their own way.

Let’s keep celebrating the many ways our brains work 💛

Thank you to for the brilliant resources helping raise awareness this week.

Thank you ! We have loved seeing the conversation around Peppa Pig and George having hearing loss.

What we think you've done so well is this:
- George isn’t being singled out.
- There’s no awkward explanation.
- No big 'lesson'.

He’s just George. Living his life. Being part of the story. And honestly? That’s exactly how children engage best.

Kids don’t sit down to watch TV or read a book to be taught. They want to enjoy a story, laugh, feel curious, recognise themselves (or their friends), without anyone making a 'thing' of it.

When disability and difference are woven naturally into stories, something really powerful happens:
✨ awareness is raised
✨ understanding grows
✨ inclusion feels normal, not forced

That approach is something we completely agree with at Shine Books.
Our books aren’t about lessons. They’re about great stories first - with representation sitting quietly but confidently at the heart of them.
