CHARITY OF THE MONTH: JUNE 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️✨☀️📚

During Pride Month 2026, Edinburgh Community Bookshop is excited to be supporting LGBT Health and Wellbeing, Scotland’s national charity for LGBTQ+ adults.

With multiple spaces across Scotland (including Edinburgh), the charity has been supporting LGBTQ+ people since 2003, helping to improve health, wellbeing and equality through practical support, community connection and inclusive services.

LGBT Health and Wellbeing provides a wide range of services including mental health support, counselling, a national LGBTQ+ helpline, support for trans and non-binary people, support for older LGBTQ+ adults, and specialist services for LGBTQ+ asylum seekers, refugees and carers.

They also run social groups and community activities that help reduce isolation and create opportunities for people to connect with others who share similar experiences.

The charity believes that everyone deserves the opportunity to live well and thrive, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. Through both one-to-one support and community-based programmes, they help people build confidence, improve wellbeing and find a sense of belonging.

In 2025 alone, the charity provided counselling to hundreds of people, delivered more than 2,000 helpline sessions, hosted over 340 community events and supported 22 community groups across Scotland.

Profits from Edinburgh Community Bookshop during June will help support the work of this fantastic charity. If you would like to contribute further, donations can also be made at the till during your visit.

Thank you for helping us support organisations that make a real difference in our communities.

VOLUNTEER RECRUITMENT IS NOW OPEN!

After pausing volunteer recruitment over the winter we’re opening it up just before the summer holiday season starts.

Do you like books? Do you like people? Do you like dogs? You should volunteer with us!

Most of our volunteers do 1-2 shifts a week, each shift is 3 hours. At the start we tend to ask volunteers to commit to a regular shift, just to get the hang of things.

If this sounds like something you’re interested in please apply via the link in our bio or on our website.

We look forward to hearing from you ☀️📚🥰✨

“It seems to me that the natural world is the greatest source of excitement; the greatest source of visual beauty; the greatest source of intellectual interest. It is the source of so much in life that makes life worth living.”

Happy 100th Birthday to Sir David Attenborough 📚✨🌍

Here’s Dave from telling us about his book pick, Any Human Heart by William Boyd.

It’s always so interesting to learn about the books picked by the spokespeople from the charities we support- especially if it links back to the work we’re doing.
