Led by bird ringer Luke, we went grebe chick hunting in the last of the pond! Grebes live primarily in the water, and with no sign of the drought abating, we began worrying that the chicks might not survive. Thanks to the friends who joined us, we caught one of them and Godfrey the Grebe has been relocated to the mill pond) which is showing no sign of drying up thank goodness!)

This unprecedented heat and dry has caused our wildlife pond to almost completely dry out. Despite that, it is still one of the greenest places on the farm so we decided to fence the cattle out of the last water to protect the remaining wildlife. The cows are enjoying the rushes and water mint!
